DOVER, Del. — For a brief moment, former Vice President Joe Biden placed himself in the crowded field of Democratic presidential candidates during a speech on Saturday night. Biden seemingly described himself as one of the people “running” while noting he gets criticized by some progressives.
“I have the most progressive record of anybody running for the United—” Biden said, then quickly corrected himself to say, “of anybody who would run. I didn’t mean it! Of anybody who would run”
The former vice president’s speech was the keynote of the First State Democratic Dinner at the Dover Downs Hotel and Casino. Biden’s appearance in his home state came amid mounting rumors and speculation he will enter the 2020 presidential race.
Asked about the “running” remark, Biden spokesperson Bill Russo pointed towards the “second half of the sentence” in which Biden corrected himself. During his career, Biden has earned a reputation for verbal misfires. A volunteer for the former vice president who was in the ballroom for the speech described the comment as a mistake.
“He did not announce. That was the slip of the tongue,” said the volunteer, who declined to be identified by name.
As he has inched closer toward entering the presidential race, Biden has faced criticism from progressives who believe he is too moderate. Critics have pointed to his tough stance on crime when he served in the U.S. Senate, for instance. Biden has also faced backlash for a speech he gave last month in which he called the current vice president, Mike Pence, a “decent guy.”
Biden’s speech on Saturday was in many ways unapologetically moderate. He noted his home state has become known for “the Delaware way” where political rivals don’t “demonize” or “belittle” each other.

I don’t see how he’s not there nominee. Just like the Repukes Dems are establishment all the way. Bernie would be kneecapped by Dems if he were the nominee. Just as “moderates” in the Repukes party would rather throw an election than to have someone win whom they didn’t pick (Trump, Moore, girl from Nevada and Delaware from a couple cycles ago) so would Dems establishment. If it’s not Biden or maybe Klobachar the Dems will throw the election.
I remember it too and it was obvious /Japan would not take over the economy. They lacked innovation, good at copying and perfecting but not innovating. And it was the 80's.

Am I dreaming? I could swear that two days ago, I read numerous articles saying that Joe had declared he was in the race. Is he now trying to walk that back?
The Idiot Biden probably has a better chance of beating Trump than anyone else the Democrats have.
He has had 2 brain surgeries. He had to ask an audience to clap for him once. His list of verbal gaffes is very long. The videos of him groping young girls is long and creepy. He has zero accomplishments. He is an old white guy. He has no chance.
And I have to ask... why? Of all the major Dem names, I'm not sure that any of them have any difference of opinion on any of the major topics.
Bernie, Gillibrand, Klobuchar, Booker, Kamala, Biden, Tulsi, Castro, Beto, Elizabeth Warren, DeBlasio, Hillary?...
Climate change, abortion, guns, government run healthcare, environment, death penalty, LGBT, immigration, taxes, spending, education, unions...
In those lists, is there ANY differentiation at all? They will HAVE to vote by appearance and identity politics.
Biden could carry PA, that’s the only difference.
