Her code name was Hedgehog, an homage to a tough animal that even a lion would hesitate to bite, as a friend once said.
And like a hedgehog, which appears cute and nonthreatening but can roll into a tight ball deploying dangerous quills when challenged, Marie-Madeleine Fourcade had an unexpected tough side.
The young French woman headed one of the most important resistance networks during World War II and oversaw the collection of crucial intelligence that helped turn the battles tide. And yet she remains virtually unknown in large part, because of her gender.
Nobody really remembers her, and one of the main reasons is shes a woman, author Lynne Olson tells The Post.
Olsons new book, Madame Fourcades Secret War: The Daring Young Woman Who Led Frances Largest Spy Network Against Hitler (Random House), aims to give due to someone who has gotten little.
The idea of a woman doing what she did, facing down all these men, breaking every rule in the book about how you should behave as a woman, its just really incredible, Olson says.

Ron Jeremy was a Freeper at one point. But I suppose that’s off topic.
The reason people don't remember those who fought in the second world war is because if the topic were taught in any detail whatsoever the exactness with which the goals and methodology of the New World order replicates the goals and methodology of the German socialists as they sought power in the early thirties would be impossible to miss or to gloss over.
Just reserved the book at my library 3 days ago.

/Allo Allo ref.
No kiddin! It’s all the same, only the names have changed.
Nobody really remembers her, and one of the main reasons is shes a woman,
Oh horse sh*t!
Exactly The White Mouse is a woman who is remembered well in my country (Australia). She was also in the resistance and is probably remembered well because she was a women. I would say that a lot of what this leader did in conjunction with high ranking Allied Forces was subject to the British Official Secrets Act and maybe similar in France and America.
What possible reason would you have for giving Ron Jeremy props?
You sure do admire some strange characters.
The next time some moron talks about the Resistance to Trump, a copy of this book should be shoved down his or her throat.
Ron Jeremy was a Freeper at one point.
Indeed he was.
I met him many years ago. It was one of the best weekends of my life. The details of it are completely unsuitable for this forum.
Best,

There was also Virginia Hall, a.k.a. the Limping Lady’ who organized sabotage throughout Vichy France. She called her wooden leg “Cuthbert.”
LOL
Much of the French resistance, so revered today, was simply communist and much of the French collaboration and much of the underlaying motivation for week French morale in the military in 1940, which is fashionable to disparage today, can be attributed to anti-Communism, that is, those who declined vigorously to fight the German invasion were aware of the communist record in Spain in the Spanish Civil War and were reluctant to fight because they preferred Nazis to communists.
How does this obviously courageous woman fit into the political spectrum?
bump
IIRC they have streets named after her in France.
Yes exactly. Some people think just because they may not have come across a person’s name or history that it has been hidden as part of some conspiracy whether conscious or not. No, its just because they hadn’t come across it or had not cared enough about the subject. Its as if their knowledge base is soooo wide that it must have been hidden on purpose. Good greif.
