AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Democratic presidential candidate Julian Castro isn’t ruling out direct payments to African-Americans for the legacy of slavery – a stand separating him from his 2020 rivals.
“If under the Constitution we compensate people because we take their property, why wouldn’t you compensate people who actually were property,” the former Obama-era housing secretary and ex-San Antonio mayor said on Sunday.
Castro was among the last of a pack of 2020 candidates to speak at the South by Southwest Festival in Texas, in what amounted to one of the biggest gatherings of the Democratic field yet.

Blacks captured and sold their fellow Africans into slavery.
Blacks held slaves at a higher percentage than whites; 24% vs 3%.
Blacks kill their fellow blacks 250 times higher than whites ever do.
Seems blacks owe themselves.
All former slaves should be compensated for their labor. This is only fair. Democrat Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (”I Stand Here as a Freed Slave”) needs to be paid for her unpaid labor. I am a little skeptical of her claim. It should be investigated. However, if true she needs to be paid. There is also the matter of slaves designated in the Morgenthau Plan and Roosevelt’s Yalta Agreement. Some of those slave are still alive.
