Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) signed legislation Friday to criminalize private gun sales but 25 of New Mexicos 33 counties have made clear they have no intention of enforcing it.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that 25 counties have declared Second Amendment Sanctuary status as a way of affirming that their county governments stand behind a sheriffs decision to not enforce the gun control.
On March 2, Breitbart News reported that 21 of New Mexicos 33 counties had declared themselves Second Amendment Sanctuaries.

How do ya like sanctuary now?
How do we lost presidential elections in this state is so many have such strong views about the 2nd amendment?
Enjoy that sanctuary while you can.
Something essentially similar happened in Colorado a few years back.
It isn’t holding, gradually the Leftist view of gun grabbing is beginning to prevail.
Because the other 8 counties are probably the most populated and are blue islands within a sea of red.
.
Most NM counties are sparsely populated.
Ranch country, not rabbit hutch country.
NM Ping!
Thank guys.
Up here it’s hard to imagine what sparsely populated looks like.
Staten Island even has half a million people on it now.
It was not nearly like this when I was a kid. I’m 50 now.
Times change.
Enough asians and russians and albanians moved here to flip out house seat :(
Albuquerque.
Thanks.
I read an article recently that said that no one really knows where most of America’s 400+ million guns are. Most guns are “transferred” when someone dies but rarely do the people who inherit the guns officially change the ownership. They just go from Grandpa’s gun safe or cabinet to family members gun safes and cabinets.
Expand please!
I’m a freaking WOP from Staten Island and you think that one word answer is gonna help me? :)
The only time I heard that name was on a Honeymooners episode.
Norton lies about where he spotted a yellow bellied sap sucker and writes down Albuquerque, NM instead of Brooklyn :)

As it should be.
Have you been to New Mexico? The 25 counties in question probably hold 10% of the population. Outside of a few major cities the place is virtually empty.
("Babylon-5" reference)
Help me out here, folks: Is this the first instance of a refusal on the county-level (with multiple counties participating) to comply with (leftist) state-level legislation - analogous to certain (leftist) cities and/or states announcing that they would not cooperate in enforcing federal law?
Regards,
“How do we lost presidential elections in this state is so many have such strong views about the 2nd amendment?”
This is why the Electoral College is vital. NM is the Tyranny of the population centers in microcosm.
From the comments below the story:
Article II, § 6 of the Constitution of New Mexico provides:
No law shall abridge the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms for security and defense, for lawful hunting and recreational use and for other lawful purposes, but nothing herein shall be held to permit the carrying of concealed weapons. No municipality or county shall regulate, in any way, an incident of the right to keep and bear arms.
Last I checked - there has been No amendment to Article 11, § 6, right?
Albuquerque and Santa Fe.
