The federal government recorded a budget surplus in January. But so far for this fiscal year starting Oct. 1, the total deficit is 77 percent higher than it was for the same period a year ago.

The Treasury Department said Tuesday the deficit for the first four months of fiscal 2019 totaled $310.3 billion. That's up from $175.7 billion in the same period a year ago -- and that includes the January surplus of $8.7 billion.

You disputed my original statement that the debt was up $2T since he took office, and you were wrong.

And now you are lying.

Maybe you should be truthful with the facts, before attempting to defend 0bama.

The only fact I stated was that the debt was up $2T during his term.

Are you telling me that you don’t dispute that fact yet still accuse me of not being truthful?

I thought it was you who was just talking about the debt in Obama's first two years.

Yet another misrepresentation of what I stated. What I wrote was in response to YOU including FY2017 as President Trump's responsibility: "Maybe you should be truthful with the facts, before attempting to defend 0bama. If you want to include 0bama's FY2009 as being Trump's responsibility, then add in another $1.6 trillion to 0bama's total, which would then give him $4 trillion additional - DOUBLE, not even considering that he started out with half the debt!"

And earlier you stated, "This has nothing to do with Obama and it's you who can't bother to do any research.", but earlier it was you that stated, "Admittedly this is less than Obama's increase on a percentage basis, but Obama's came during an extreme recession - this time it's happening with a very strong economy which is when we should be banking for a rainy day. "

The fact is, I do my research. It's you, that is posting garbage from the #fakenews MSM and not doing your own research.

The statement that you replied to was, "And now you are lying."

You accused me of disputing something, which I never did. That indeed, is a LIE. Where did I say anything whatsoever, about the debt not going up during his term. Everyone can go back and see what I actually wrote, SO STOP WITH YOUR LIES!

You accused me of disputing something, which I never did.

This is getting silly. In your original post you said “At this point in 0bama's term, there was already well over $2 trillion added to our national debt of $11 trillion...“

No mention of FY adjustments or anything like that.

I replied with the $2T debt increase fact.

You then said I should be “truthful with the facts”.

You can say that isn’t “disputing”, but it is.

Night.

Compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges! You are either ignorant, or intentionally misrepresenting the facts. You implied that the debt went up the same amount with Trump during the same period as 0bama, because as you quoted, I wrote, "...in 0bama's term, there was already well over $2 trillion added to our national debt...", then you stated that it was the same with Trump, when in fact it wasn't, because if you were being truthful, you would have also stated that 0bama had $4 trillion and not the $2 trillion that you were comparing to.

“If you have the world’s reserve currency deficits don’t matter.”

Someone I know who is military and somewhat conservative explained to me that Trump and Putin are working in concert to weaken/destroy the Dollar and Euro as the top currencies. This person also said one reason we jumped on Ghaddafi was that he was trying to make a significant African currency area. It would not surprise me if Trump hated bankers since they have stopped pouring money into his lap.

I didn't imply anything, I took your statement at face value.

If you meant "from the beginning of FY10 to this point in Obama's term" you should have said that (and I think it's a valid way to look at it, BTW).

It was only in a later post that you said that's what you meant.

It isn't my job to research and adjust the statistics you quote.

Once again, you are lying. What you wrote was, "The debt is up more than $2T since Trump took office as well."

Yes indeed, you wrote "as well", so you did imply that President Trump has been running up our Country's debt just as much as 0bama!

And sadly, you just admitted that you don't even bother to do your own research, after making the ignorant comment to me, "...and it's you who can't bother to do any research." ;-)

I wrote that in response to what you wrote:

You may have meant something else, like "in Obama's term the debt was up $2T from FY10 to this point in his term", but you didn't say that.

Our debate will be more productive if I can respond to what you write rather than trying to respond to what you're thinking.

And sadly, you just admitted that you don't even bother to do your own research...

You're taking me to task for accepting your claim at face value! LOL

Don't worry, I won't make that mistake again.

You are either too stupid to understand that "well over $2 trillion added" is what was added by 0bama and didn't include what was added by previous administrations, or you are a liar. Which is it?

Obviously you are old enough to remember, without having to look it up. There is nothing to debate. Facts are facts, and btw, it was stupid you, that accused people of not doing there own research, not me.

> Democrats insisted on spending increase parity for Democrat welfare/pork/etc to agree to defense spending increase. A large part of the ballooning deficit can be placed right there.

Yeah? The GOP were in charge of the entire Congress for the past 4 years, and the last 2 with a Republican President. I think we know who is responsible for this damn deficit.

I’m sorry folks, I just did my taxes and my husband and I got *SCREWED*. I am *pissed*! The deduction caps and the inability for me to write off state taxes were a dam nightmare! I owe more than $3500 more than last year! Meanwhile liberal jerk Bezos’ Amazon pays NO taxes this year! WHY? I am NOT HAPPY with the incompetent Republicans in Congress!

Why? K Street lobbyists wrote the tax bill for their benefit: corporate tax cuts. You can thank Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell and the rest of the worthless GOP Congress for it. The Party of Lincoln seems intent on committing suicide. I will no longer be assisting in that when President Trump leaves office.

You’re kidding right?

Bush AND the R held congress DESTROYED the budget when they had both chambers.

There’s no way to spin the garbage budgets republicans have been spewing out for the longest time now.

Trump is the only one fighting but Rs wouldn’t eve work with him.

I’m sure it wasn’t reported under obama like it is now but it’s not spin.

I think they get into office, take a look at SS/medicare/military/social welfare programs and just throw their hands up.

No one wants to sacrifice.

Kennedy, who i don’t particularly like, was right when he said “ask not...”

That doesn’t apply anymore.

Tax cuts to corporations that send jobs to China or Mexico such as GM did, will never make America great or reduce our deficit. Why are our politicians so stupid (or corrupt)?
