Nobody wants to talk about those points: The person to blame first and foremost is Otto Warmbier himself. In the US when people die doing something rash and receive a Darwin Award, compassionate people ask “should they pay with their life for their stupidity?” - and in the civilized West, the answer is “no”.

In North Korea, the answer is “yes” - it has been like that for more than half a century.

I would be rightly pissed to high heaven. Mr and Mrs. Warmbier already received a victory in their lawsuit against NK GOVERNMENT (read “Kim Jong Un”) and Pyongyang was ordered to pay out millions of dollars, which the DPRK has yet to pay. A US Court of law found North Korean government culpable. The White House said they supported the Warmbier’s in getting justice. Private US citizens can in fact sue foreign governments under a provision if their loved one has been killed by a nation-state that is listed as an official sponsor of state terrorism, which North Korea led by the President’s friend who he stated he “fell in love with” and likes, Kim Jong Un, a list DPRK is still on. SMH SMH

He is on video saying exactly that.

I don’t think it matters one way or the other.

You can’t help anyone who is stupid enough to go to a place like North Korea and start messing around with political posters.

UGH....Obama and the Deep State had three generals running North Korea during Kim Jungs fathers reign and then at the start of Kim jungs reign. trump has neautralized those three deep state aholes. Come on people catch up..things move fast. Pay attention. Trump is right again....kim Jung was being guided into WW3 by these deep state plants.

No, "I believe him" is exactly what that means. This is not difficult.

I understand it was a tactical move. It was a bad one.

What is your evidence he did something wrong? What is the evidence on removing posters? What would be the source of your evidence?

He was a tourist in Red China (which is dangerous enough, but they want to put a new face on for tourists); he signed up for an illegal trip into North Korea, and while there, was filmed tearing down a propaganda poster. He was detained, and beaten or something so that he was returned in a vegetative state (and died soon after).

Who does this stuff? Like the “kids” that accidentally hiked into Iran...they are lucky to be alive.

They’ve broadcast footage of him doing that on our media; he didn’t contest that. People with him didn’t contest it, either.

HE SHOULD HAVE NEVER ENTERED NORTH KOREA - IT IS DANGEROUS.

Warmbier was responsible; how could you even contest that? I sympathize with his family, and even him; I don’t believe he knew how dangerous North Korea is.

This would be comparable to jumping in the lions den and complaining as they eat you; it is what they do.

This is a smear on Trump, nothing else.

Also Kim has reported had people executed by anti-aircraft gun, mortar, and flamethrower.

Sounds pretty far fetched......What do you suppose the NK media says about our president?

“Damned if you do, damned if you don’t”

When Otto Warmbier came home the left was crowing about how great it was that a POS white frat boy who thought he could get away with anything had been cut down to size. They had absolutely no sympathy when he died. Now it's all poor Otto, justice for Otto. Hypocrites.

How can it be a smear on President Trump? He is the one who made these rather odd and disputable statements just now, i.e in the last few days, and it would not be an issue if he had not crossed over the line and said such astounding things, that the White House now seems to be trying to spin away from.

In fact, Pres. Trump has already stated that North Korea is responsible for this death, and called Kim Jong Un a cult leader, noted that kids have been beaten in the DPRK for failing to memorize facts about the Dear Leader, and he made these clearly and excellently if you recall in public before the South Korean National Assembly during his state visit there in Nov. 2017. Why would he reverse himself on this issue and clearly say that Kim Jong Un bears no responsibility on this matter (the man breaking bread with him who ordered the hit with WMD on foreign soil to kill his half brother, and put his uncle and uncle's relatives before a firing squad), and otherwise contradict the ruling of US Federal Court that Gov. of DPRK is responsible and is to pay the fine, and POTUS supported this? I don't see how this can be walked back, twitter or no twitter.

There was nothing illegal about the trip he was on. Sure that place is a hellhole and dangerous—the tour operator even joked in their marketing collateral about it, but can you tell me the source of your information where it was “illegal” for Warmbier to go there in Jan. 2016?

PS North Korea says he tore down a poster. They also had a film footage of him, that specialists observed was most likely staged after the fact in an effort to have the kangaroo trial and perhaps to extract a confession.

In this legal case, do you agree with North Korea's version of the incident?

I’d rather he never said it.

The fact is, whoever harmed him in North Korea did exactly what North Koreans do. No American politician should have anything to do with these Americans that foolishly put themselves in harm’s way.

Yes, on this they (lib MSM) are hypocrites. They want to use him politically sure. That is a separate issue than the President going over the line in his praise of the dictator and letting him off the hook and saying things he now no doubt regrets and the White House is trying to walk back.

I agree with you on your first point. The Administration did the right thing in enacting a travel ban on Americans there after Warmbier came back and died several days later, and that State Dept. also says that if any American goes up there, they should ready all their affairs as if they will come back as a dead body or never come back at all. That was not in place in 2016. Furthermore, none of this absolves Kim Jong Un and his government of direct responsibility--which is really the issue and really the current firestorm.

As I understand it, he never indicated to the American government that he was entering North Korea. What protection should he expect?
