Kim Jong Un was not responsible for the horrific injuries sustained by American student Otto Warmbier, who died shortly after being released from 17 months of detention in North Korea, President Donald Trump said Thursday.

"Some really bad things happened to Otto - some really, really bad things. But he tells me that he didn't know about it, and I will take him at his word," Trump said, referring to the North Korean dictator.

The president added that Kim told him that he "felt very badly about it."

I don’t take him at his word, and I don’t care about his feelings.

At least President Trump had the balls to ask him about Otto. Obama left him there without doing anything.

What did the Obama administration do?

And you’d have to be living under a rock to think that touring in NK is safe.

This doesn’t matter a damn bit. The real problem is North Korea has and always will say to hell with what America wants. We have lost denuking these simple minded jackasses. China is more of a threat to us than NK Only wiping NK out of existence will solve he problem.

Trump is being diplomatic. If he’d blamed Fat Boy, he’d have been criticized.

The Left treat Trump with “Damned if you do, damned if you don’t”. No matter what he does, he is criticized.

“take him at his word” my take on that is Trump is tentatively accepting what he said, which is different from what the headline suggests.

There are those on the right who criticize him too. In this instance, I bet there will be a bunch of it. Too bad because the victim made two bad choices and it cost him his life. Number one bad choice was to take a side trip to North Korea. The second was to steel the propaganda poster in the hotel. He was just a kid and did a stupid kid thing. Nobody teaches situational awareness anymore. When I was a kid traveling to foreign lands, my father drilled it into me.

He is negotiating. He has also threatened to blow Kim to kingdom come. He is offering death or a chance to come in from the cold. Kim understands what he is doing and saying.

Trump is trying to soften up Kim

This is a tactic that might help later on.

If you are trying to make a deal with someone, calling them a murdering piece of human trash isn’t a good place to start.

Nothing will get done now. The Chicoms and Kim will just wait it out until after 2020. They know they will get a better deal from the next POTUS if Trump loses.

Trump knows he is a lying sob you don’t risk world security negotiations by calling him a liar which would accomplish nothing.

Better to say nothing sometimes. Should not go there.

I am thinking about the inhuman guards who shot the escaping guy.

But he tells me that he didn't know about it, and I will take him at his word.

That's a far cry from saying 'I believe him.'

I agree. 2020 is not that far away. The upcoming impeachment means (to them) they should just stall for time.

So we’re dealing with “what-if’s”? Sorry I don’t play that game.
