Republicans won two of the five state legislative seats at stake in special elections Tuesday, flipping House and Senate districts by carrying blue-collar communities that have grown difficult for Democrats. All five vacancies were the result of Gov. Lamont hiring Democratic legislators in January.
Even with the losses, Democrats retained solid majorities of 91-60 in the House and 22-14 in the Senate. But Republicans got a morale boost after losing ground in the General Assembly last fall for the first time in 10 years.
In the nights biggest upset, Republican Gennaro Bizzarro of New Britain won the the 6th Senate District with 53 percent of the vote, defeating Rep. Rick Lopes, D-New Britain. The district includes the GOP-trending suburb of Berlin, where House Speaker Joseph Aresimowicz, a Democrat, barely won re-election last fall against a late entrant.
Lopes carried New Britain by about 500 votes, but lost Berlin by nearly 1,000 votes. The district also has a piece of Farmington that was carried by Bizzarro.
Two Democrats held onto Senate seats in solid Democratic districts: M. Saud Anwar of South Windsor, a physician who became the states first Muslim mayor in 2013, won the 3rd Senate District with 59 percent of the vote over Republican Sarah A. Muska; and Rep. Derek Slap of West Hartford won a four-way race in the 5th Senate District with 63 percent. Republican Bill Wadsworth finished second with 34%.
Snip ...
Republican Joseph Zullo of East Haven won in the 99th House District, which was carried by Donald J.Trump in 2016, a harbinger of difficult times to come for the Democrats in a district theyve dominated for three decades. With 54 percent of the vote in a two-way race, Zullo easily defeated Democrat Josh Balter, who was cross-endorsed by the union-backed Working Families Party.

So does this mean that suburban women dont hate Trump anymore?
As a Ct refugee in SC, I had the same reaction. So what?
Back in the day, I commuted to Stamford everyday along I 95 and was tortured by the tolls. I was radicalized by the movement to ban the tolls.
I laughed out loud when reading the proposal to install 82 tolls. If implemented, people in gulags would be less oppressed than Ct citizens.
Too late, proles. You have voted democrat so much that the democrats are now voting to kill babies outside of the mother’s body. As if killing them inside was also not murder somehow.
Useful idiots are the scourge of our society.

Didn’t have time to get the fraud machine up to speed.
If you drive a car,I'll tax the street
If you take a walk,I'll tax your feet
Weird not a peep from cnn or msnbc. Not.
The 5 districts are all Dem districts, however, the two that flipped are trending Republican. Senate 3 (East Hartford, South Windsor and East Windsor) is a strong Dem district, so I knew it wouldn’t be flipped.
How right you are!
Left in 64
The election in Fairfax, VA, was a D win but the Rs picked up significant ground (7-8 points) over the previous in a totally blue district.
Good for you. As a native, I stayed and watched in horror as Ct went from red to blue. Loathsome Lowell Weicker gave the Dems the money they needed to buy up the state. Bill Buckley really hated him too.

A good day
It’s not Lowell Weicker, it is Lowell Wackjob...
That's 3 gains now (State Senate seat in MN) for the year against zero loses I think (in specials, some RINOs "switched").
Hey. It's something positive.
Weather hype here.
Extended Autumn ended on WED and early Spring began on Thurs.
We can handle the Spring snow that will hit this month.
It is sunny, 43F here.
Bizzaro (that’s his name?) won in NEW BRITAIN? Does he have any chance of holding that in the next regular election?
Tolls, tolls, tolls. I first traveled through Connecticut in ‘62. My memory of the state was throwing quarters in toll booths repeatedly. Seems like I barely got the car back up to speed when there was another damn toll booth demanding a quarter. I bet the tolls are more now and they still don’t have the road paid for ;o)
