It’s an iconic scene to me.

Grizzled old hardcore American, watching something awful coming his way. He’s gonna leave a smoking pile of brass around him before he leaves the Field to the enemy.

Thirty Seconds over Tokyo, and The Young Lions was also on today.

Geez. Boomers began to be born in 1946. LBJ was elected in 1964, when the oldest boomers were 18. The voting age in 1964 was 21. No boomer ever voted for LBJ. Not one. What you can thank the boomers for is Ronald Reagan. You’re welcome.

I acknowledged my math error and the voting age change, elsewhere. It's a fair cop.

That said...

What you can thank the boomers for is Ronald Reagan. You’re welcome.

Let's go to the tote board.

If we do the math again...Boomers, broadly, were born between 1945-1960. Thus, in 1980 Boomers were between 20 and 35: based on this set of exit polling the younger Boomers split evenly between Mondale and Reagan while those 30-44 (i.e., Boomers and 'Silent Generation') went 55% for Reagan vs 51% for the nation as a whole. So, on balance it's unclear if Boomers gave us Reagan in 1980.

Fast forward to 1984 where Boomers are now 24-39 years old: exit polling suggests that while Reagan captured 59% of the popular vote, 57% of younger Boomers went for Reagan, while those 30-49 went 58% for Reagan. Interestingly, youngsters and old people went 61% for Reagan. So, yes, in 1984 Boomers contributed to Reagan's landslide but were underweight vs the overall vote.

In 1988 when Boomers are now 28-43 years old, exit polling says those 30-44 punched above the national vote totals for Bush the Elder; admittedly, he was a better option than Dukakis but if they get 'credit' for Reagan, they get credit for Bush, too.

Then, we get to the Clinton Years...usually, as a generation ages, they get more conservative. And yet, by 1992 when Boomers are 32-47 years old, exit polling shows them leaning Clinton over Bush. In 1996, the Boomers aged 36-51 per exit polling voted more heavily for Clinton than Dole, though the older Boomers were less pro-Clinton than the younger Boomers. So, if the Boomers gave us Reagan, they also gave us Bush AND Clinton.

In 2000, the Boomers are now 40-55; per exit polling older Boomers went for Gore while younger Boomers favored Dubya. By 2004 the 44-59 year old Boomers regained their wits after 12 years in the Democrat wilderness and voted for Bush.

During the Obama elections, where the Boomers are 48-63 in 2008 and 52-67 in 2012, it's a mixed bag where they went for Obama in 2008 but then went for Romney in 2012.

In 2016 the aging Boomers were solid Trump supporters.

So, net-net-net, the Boomers helped give us Reagan (though were underweight in votes), Bush the elder, Clinton, went for Gore then Dubya, then gave us Obama then went Willard and Trump.

Correction: in the 1980 election Boomer support was split between Reagan and Carter, not Mondale (of course). This is perhaps not surprising since in 1976 the voting Boomers went for Carter.

The point, of course, remains: every generation goes through its stupid phase but most older people seem to think that never happened to their generation. The elders' claims that the current youths are dumber than they ever had been is a cross between ignorant (like forgetting that the voting age was changed...) to being unaware of the facts. Time will tell with the Millenials but the ones I've encountered are pretty decent kids.

I’m all for free health care for everyone. The problem is finding enough doctors and nurses willing to work for free, pharmaceutical companies willing to develop and deliver new medicines for free, construction companies willing to build hospitals for free. Maybe we can force them all to, but that would be kind of like slavery, no?

I don’t think she understands her own policies.

I assumed she was just woefully ignorant and brainwashed (as opposed to “Stupid”) but GOPster may be on to something with the “Gump” theory.

In the Gump novel, he runs for office.

Brother, I think she understands PERFECTLY.

She may be lethally stupid, but she’s a “true believer”, and has been groomed for this for a long time.

Hopefully, she gets removed from office before she can do any real damage.

“...She’ll scare swing voters...”

Depends on how many of them are actually paying attention.

It’s refreshing to hear someone tell the gibmedats “No” after watching the nauseating spectacle of all the Dim presidential candidates try to act like Santa (with the taxpayer paying for all the toys).

She’s mildly retarded and/or/also is a “true believer”.

The White gated community/limousine liberals must be sh*ting themselves that one of their AA pets has gone off the script.

White RATS very quickly will discover that they are being pushed out of their party.
