Except her own. And her beard's. Who will be a contract employee. Google calendar coordinator.
Good point! Was wondering though, was Holder or Comey Obama's Beria?
But Amazon’s jobs for 150k average were “scraps”.
This person is CRAZY!
So she’s paying them ONLY a living wage. Show’s how much she cares about the little guy.
Bingo! Just what I was going to say. Let’s see this dingbat run a business - like that bar she worked at - and pay the dishwasher $52K a year.
She ain’t paying then nothing.
She’s paying only $52K, in an expensive city such as Washington? They still will.have part time jobs to make ends meet.
I am quite sure the starting salary at $52,000.00 also had something to do with her BOYFRIEND being hired as a staff member, I would be VERY interested to know what his STARTING salary is!!!
She ain’t paying theM nothing.
I sure do wonder why this twit or any of the other jerks running for or getting elected think the money they spend on campaigns is no big deal. We are going to see MILLIONS, probably billions spent for the 2020 races and all the time we are going to be hearing the bitchin’, moaning and complaining about “money in politics.” Do they have a clue what the amounts of money squandered on campaigns could do in their SOCIAL programs? The money they spend over HERE - doesn’t have any relationship to money they spend over THERE.
This idiot wants to pay the highest salaries for her staff members but it doesn’t relate to her campaign swill of SOCIALISM. Doesn’t she know SOCIALISM is meant to HURT the citizens otherwise what is the purpose? She’s going to pay staff members more than the people she WANTED to help!!! Yeah, sure - just like the bridge in Brooklyn!
And hey - if you can’t afford to live in a city that is expensive, MOVE to where it’s cheaper!
Why don’t they work for free like Trump?
Lets see...
52K per year / 2080 hours per year = $25/hr.
hmm.. $25/hr x 160hrs/mo = $4000/mo. knock off $1K for taxes leaves $3K. Now add up typical expenses: $1K/mo for rent. $100 Cell phone, $50 internet, $100 utilities, $100 insurance, $400 auto pmt, $300 food, $100 gasoline leaves $850/mo left over best case scenario. That’s living on the cheap. Throw in children, medical expenses...
Thats a pretty meager living imho.
If only she had more of other peoples’ money she could give the entire world a “living wage!”
Why does she even need a staff which I believe is ten people? How about one or two assistants instead? People in the private sector do in one day what she does in a month. What has she done so far? Protest Amazon and lost 25,000 jobs and sent out a bunch of stupid tweets.
How dumb is COA?
Not as dumb as those who voted for her.
That would be the median wage for chiefs of staff, not for all congressional staffers. One also needs to distinguish between personal office staff vs. committee staff, and between staff who work for members in the above categories vs. general support staff working for the Clerk of the House, the Sergeant at Arms, and the various generic support functions on the Hill. The congressional complex is really a small city.
As for personal staff, which is what AOC's announcement is about, every Member gets a fixed "clerk hire" account. Members can split it up any way they choose. If AOC choose to pay support staff very highly, as compared to current House norms, she will have to take it out of the hides of her senior staff. Right now she's a rock star. She's also a new Member flooded with applications from people who will take low pay to get a foot in the door on the Hill. But over time, she will not be able to retain experienced and highly skilled staff if she can't offer them competitive pay. One would expect even an upjumped bartender to understand this, but perhaps not.
With her announced pay cap, her top staffers will essentially be in a salary freeze situation from Day 1. It will be interesting to see how long this policy lasts.
If this article is correct, she'll be lowering pay for some staffers so that she can increase the pay for others. In true socialist fashion. lol
salaries for the congresswomans office would top out at $80,000 well below the $154,634 median wage, . . . . Some Ocasio-Cortez staffers might be required to take pay cuts,
“$1K/mo for rent.”
In New York? I doubt it.
.
These are 2017 figures so it has to be well over a million dollars per year per member now. There are all kinds of games played with these figures from person to person - office to office. The Sanchez sisters (D-CA where else) got in trouble because one ran out of $$$ for office expenses and the other one gave her money from her account. One is finally OUT of the House - the other is still plying her trade!

“”The Members’ Representational Allowance (MRA) is available to support Representatives in their official and representational duties.15
The MRA may be used for official expenses including, for example, staff, travel, mail, office equipment, district office rental, stationery, and other office supplies.
The MRA is also subject to a number of restrictions. For example, the MRA may not be used to defray any personal or campaign-related expenses. A Member is also prohibited from using campaign funds (except where authorized by the Committee on Ethics) or committee funds to pay for expenses related to official representational duties; using an unofficial office account; accepting funds or assistance from a private source for an official activity; or using personal funds to pay for franked mail.
A Member is responsible for personally paying for any expenses that are in excess of the authorized MRA level or that are not reimbursable under regulations of the Committee on House Administration.16
The MRA for each Representative is calculated based on three components, including
personnel, which is the same for each Member ($944,671 for each Member in 2017);
official office expenses, which varies among Members due to variations in the distance between a Member’s district and Washington, DC, and the cost of General Services Administration office rental space in the district;
official (franked) mail, which varies among Members based on the number of nonbusiness addresses in the district. Requirements on the use of franked mail, including mass mailings, are established in statute, Rules of the House, and regulations of the Commission on Congressional Mailing Standards (also known as the Franking Commission).””
