Rep. Maxine Waters said Thursday that she would be “disappointed” if actor Jussie Smollett is found guilty of faking a hate crime.
“If, in fact, it’s a hoax, of course I would be disappointed,” the California Democrat told Variety magazine’s Marc Malkin on the red carpet at Essence’s Black Women in Hollywood Awards in Beverly Hills.

Not relieved that America in 2019 is not as racist and homophobic as Smollett would have us believe?
The correct emotion here is sadness that Smollett ruined his career by his stupidity. But we should all be cheered that the accusations are untrue.
