Jared Kushner privately working on reshaping legal immigration
McClatchy News Service ^ | Feb 20 2019 | Franco Ordonez

Posted on 02/21/2019 9:32:03 PM PST by rintintin

As debate in public rages about illegal immigration and a border wall, Jared Kushner has been holding private meetings in the West Wing on ways to overhaul the legal immigration system, according to six people familiar with the conversations and documents obtained by McClatchy.

President Donald Trump’s senior adviser and son-in-law is operating on at least two tracks -- the first is working with a small group studying specific ways to redistribute employment visas and the second is helping lead a series of “listening sessions” with about three dozen interest groups important to Trump to see if there is a position that Republicans can rally around before the 2020 elections.

“Jared has proven with the work he did on criminal justice reform and the other work he’s done that he’s willing to be bipartisan,” said Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker and an informal adviser to Trump. “He’s willing to listen carefully. And I think he has a very good sense that if you don’t put together an overwhelming majority of Republicans nothing will happen... If it’s possible, they’ll try to move forward.”

What is clear from conversations with participants and both current and former Trump officials is that Kushner has helped kicked off a fresh discussion on immigration that reflects a new paradigm in the White House. It’s a shift away from priorities of 2017 that sought to prevent the influx of foreign workers who could displace American workers in favor of a new approach preferred by more traditional Republicans, particularly those close to the corporate sector who are desperate to attract more foreign workers to fill U.S. factories and tech hubs.

I hear ya. I’ve been known to get emotional at the flag and anthem ceremonies too.

God bless your family. So nice to hear things like that.

Please, try to focus.

I DO NOT care right now about the particular issue discussed in this article. Nor do I have ANY opinion about Jared, good or bad.

I have been a journalist for over 30 years.

I have seldom seen an article that supposedly “quoted” so many people, saying so many things, with NO substantiation. A couple of people — observers of the passing scene, really — are quoted, but “a former White House official” or “someone familiar with the conversation” make up the bulk of it.

If you want to see this kind of bogus journalism — along the lines of Katie Couric’s famous “Somebody told me ... “ BS, then go ahead and champion it.

This is a classic example of the kind of lame, unsourced, articles FReepers have been fighting against for years.

That’s a slander against the many American kids who study STEM in college - then have to compete for jobs with h1b visa Indians. Michelle Malkin has documented that the problem isn’t lack of qualified American workers - it’s the greed of corporate bosses who want foreign workers so they can pay them less and work them harder. Trump seems to be casting his lot with these vile ceos , and it’s not going to help his re-election chances

I spent the last 20 years of my corporate life managing big tech projects, and I always had to hire qualified people with specific skills to join in and get the job done. Salaries we offered were based on prevailing levels of pay for the skills, and never once did it matter who the applicant was... American or not. When I needed someone who could to the task, they got the job and the pay we offered.

Anyway, Trump has never said that he would stop legal immigration. Anyone who thought he did say that, wasn't paying attention.

What Trump wants to do is to stop having to allow in 1,000 unskilled criminal immigrant for every 1 skilled one we bring in. Without some sort of "deal" he will never be able to achieve that.

If you want a president who will stop all immigration, even for skilled workers, then good luck. Trump's not the one, and sure as hell, no Democrat is either.

I’m pretty sympathetic to that those thoughts.

Women are pushed to excel at every step of the way. It’s incredible the support system and networking that exists for them.

Men are just worthless widgets these days, and women play right into it.

We’ve got a serious problem. Men are not encouraged at all. And as we’ve seen they’re now absolutely trashed beyond reason.

Women may think this is cute, but if they want a husband who can provide for the family too, they need to pounce on this stuff and help men out.

It’s a full on war against White men these days.

As i say in my #62, my issue isn’t with the issue right at the moment.

I’m just trying my best to indicate that ANY article which relentlessly quotes unnamed “officials” like this one does don’t qualify as “journalism” at all.

The profession is already on the most slippery slope possible.

You’re right, and I didn’t mean to infer anything negative in your direction. No problem here...

Need skilled people?

1.There are skilled people...Long-time US citizen Disney workers actually trained their cheap H-1b Visa replacements.

2. There are Freepers here who are out-of work ~ IT professionals who would love another step up to the plate. How do I know? I have gotten Freepmail from them. They are older and may have been out of work for a long period of time and had to take other jobs to pay bills.

3. There are US students who are competing with foreign students upon graduation—and there have been hiring incentives for companies to hire the foreign students over US students.

Reforms should benefit US citizens who voted for our President...not global businesses and foreign workers.

I was also raised to be fiercely proud of America, and during that era, who wouldn’t? We were (and still are) the First Nation in everything that matters.

I was taught that America is a ‘great melting pot’, and that our national motto is, E Pluribus Unum. We were, ‘One nation, Under God, with liberty and justice for all.’

That’s the America I subscribe to, as so should every other person living within our borders. But too many of the foreign born in our midst have no such love for America. If we had firm control over immigration into this country, such people wouldn’t even be here. We’d have a different class of immigrant who was actually thankful to be here, and who wants to assimilate.

We have simply got to stop the incoming invasion so we can get to the bigger job of deporting the worst of the illegals, then doing something about the rest. It’s a matter of national security that we do this. If we don’t, America will be lost by 2030.

If the President wants to increase immigration, as he said he does, why is it an unbelievable "crock" that his SIL is working to carry out this wish?

OK in all seriousness, how about YOU do an article on this subject...

Frankly, this is a huge issue that has and will affect many US citizens...You may not like this article or the journalist who wrote it, but there have been dozens posted here regarding the erosion of the middle class due to cheap foreign labor—on and off shore.

Make a difference and MAGA. Write an article instead of attacking those of us who care about the issue—because if even 25% of the information is accurate, I am against the reforms proposed by Jared et. al.

So if I find a wife in Asia she can’t come here or become a US citizen?

I have no problem with allowing the best and brightest, or those with strong sense of ambition into this country as legal immigrants. Like Trump said, we do need those people.

But the whole immigration system needs to be overhauled, and we must do a better job of vetting potential immigrants.

The 20 month long presidential campaign season is just getting into gear now, so we'll see much of this propaganda BS.

The basic premise is, "Hey you bigot, racist Trump voters... your guy Trump is going to betray you. He's turning out to not be the KKK guy you thought he was. So, drop your support for him"

You were part of the problem. If you weren't FOR the many American kids who studied STEM in college, then you were against them.

Welcome to West India, everyone.

I'm at the age now where a lot of my friends and relatives have kids who just got out of college a few years back. Many of them went into tech fields, and they ALL got very good paying jobs right away... many got them even before they graduated. Good companies like Intel, Google, Microsoft, etc.

I'm not buying the "we should hate business because they sometimes hire foreigners" line. I also don't hate foreigners. I want America's industry to thrive again, and its going to take all the talent it can get.

I hired whomever the tasks at hand called for. Full-timers, contractors for short projects, other companies (like InstallShield) when appropriate.

My projects always finished on time and usually under budget, which was good for the company (and shareholders) and for me and all my mostly American team members.

Assimilation happens when the people coming do so because they understand and love America.

Unfortunately, the majority of those from the South American and Mexican cultures have been propagandized to hate America and want to change it.

Jared is too lily white and East Coast to understand the cultures.

He will balkanize us in the name of the holy dollar.
