A photo of Governor Bill Lee has surfaced depicting him wearing a Confederate uniform while attending an "Old South" party with his fraternity, Kappa Alpha.

The yearbook page in the "Greek Life" section features a caption saying:

"...KA is based on the ideals that its founding fathers saw exemplified in their college president, Robert E. Lee. These ideals constituted the frame and fabric of Southern Culture and include chivalry, valor, loyalty and reverence for womankind. It is for this reason that KA at Auburn Univ. each spring has a week long celebration of the grandeur and glory of the OLD SOUTH."

Sadly, this is the world we live in now.

If you think it's sad now, just wait until history repeats itself. Those who forget history are destined to repeat it and the politically correct loons will rue the day when it happens. They are NOT doing blacks in this country any favors by wiping confederate memories from history.

Lincoln, the most important person at the time the war started (which is when the cause of a war is determined), explicitly stated that it wasn’t about slavery.

That’s a fact.

Sure, Fort Sumter wasn't about slavery, nor was the Confederate Declaration of War on May 6, 1861.
But Declarations of Secession were all about slavery, and within a few weeks of Fort Sumter, slavery became a military issue in the form of "Contraband of War".

Beginning in 1861 Congress passed several laws protecting fugitive Confederate slaves and offering compensated emancipation in Union areas..
The result was slavery became increasingly important, militarily & politically, especially so after Lincoln's preliminary Emancipation Proclamation in 1862.

Those are facts, FRiend.

...

Combine that with Lincoln’s first inaugural address and it’s clear that the cause of the war was preservation of the Union.

Anything that happened after the war started can not be a cause by definition.

Moonman62: "Combine that with Lincoln’s first inaugural address and it’s clear that the cause of the war was preservation of the Union."

Well... the immediate cause was Jefferson Davis' order to "reduce" Fort Sumter when he believed Lincoln "assailed" Confederate "integrity".
But you may remember, there are several categories of "causation" including proximate, ultimate, predisposing, precipitating, etc.
Ultimately, Civil War was caused by secession and secession by, mainly, slavery.

And within a few weeks after Fort Sumter, slavery again became a focus in the form of "Contraband of War".
So nobody at the time doubted CSA Gen. Morgan's words:

Nobody with any sense would take the opinion of a cherry picked rebel general after the war started above that of Lincoln in his inaugural address.

As Lincoln said then on the eve of the war, it was all about preservation of the Union.

Moonman62: "As Lincoln said then on the eve of the war, it was all about preservation of the Union."

And here's what Jefferson Davis said in that same context:

Davis himself later claimed the war was not over slavery, but freedom & independence.
However, plenty of others at the time understood that slavery was the direct link to secession & war.

Here is a long list of quotes illustrating the point.
