Stockton, Calif., is sending 'debit cards loaded with $500' to a select group of residents starting Friday as part of a closely watched experiment in universal basic income, the first led by a U.S. city.
the Stockton Economic Empowerment Demonstration, or SEED, to provide insight on whether a long-term basic income program is a viable creative approach to lifting residents out of poverty.
"The need has only been reiterated" in the last few weeks of preparation, SEED director Sukhi Samra said. "Folks are ready to use this money to pay bills, to save for the future, to pay off debt and pay for medicine."
Each month for 18 months, 130 adults living in the city's lower-income neighborhood will receive $500 to spend however they want. Researchers with SEED will track, study and analyze how the income boost affects residents' spending and saving habits, and how it influences other factors such as quality of life and financial stability.
The idea of universal basic income is simple - giving money to everyone, regardless of income level or employment status, with no restrictions on the expenditures.

Fat chance of that.
I know a retired lady who is living on $720 monthly from social security that she ‘worked’ years for. Yes it was a low paying job but all she was capable of doing. So now they’re going to hand out $500. a month to people who haven’t worked for it?
They referenced how bad it is there....however people do move when things get bad....I’m not so sure what they intend to accomplish with this hand out of cash. Once people get used to this they aren’t going to let it go easily.....strange days we live in.
The “progressives” will never go for this approach—they like big bloated bureaucracies that monitor and attempt to control human behavior.
Each bureaucracy needs legions of “managers” and public relations staff (aka propagandists)—such has it always been and will always be in “progressive” land.
I would monitor the receipts of liquor stores in the affected area.
Failed in Finland but why not try again????

Yeah, that'll happen.
Universal basic income is when everyone in a town gets the same amount regardless of income.
Anything free becomes a bias to the economy.
Of course, I said ‘bias’, which 99/100 people probably have no clue what that means.

TAX PAYER candy distributed by their Santa Claus, a government elected official. This new redistribution no strings attached gift will be used for drugs booze alcohol and gambling. Not bad enough that they are getting any and all entitlement programs they are now getting paid as well. NO STRINGS ATTACHED is the icing on the cake that’s got me beside myself. These arrogant politicians should hanging from a lampost in the town square

So how many of these “experiments” must there be before it occurs to folks that they do not accomplish what is claimed will happen? Or is the goal something other than what is proclaimed?
Perhaps they are attempting to retainn voters who move to better climes? This is very much in the mold of “bread and circuses.” Everyone who gets the 500 should also get government provided free cable TV.
“other people;s” money only lasts so long...
marijuana now
I’ve posted for years now that the open borders are to fill the country with CONSUMERS, not WORKERS - and this nonsense confirms it. It is to prop up dying economies with re-distributed dollars, nothing more - and if the area isn’t already withering on the vine, it is done to prevent that from happening.
...maybe they can build a railroad...
..or buy weapon to protect themselves
before the wave.
