"This afternoon an individual was filming our girls at the school and the building perimeter extensively windows and exits," the school's principal said. "This caused anxiety to staff and students."
Perez said she was filming the architecture of the building when the security guard started threatening her.
The case was still under investigation. Perez was not accused of a crime.

This thing is a transgender YouTube star looking to supposedly support first amendment rights by filming wherever and whenever they please. Seems like it likes controversy. Any one with any brains would use them if “filming architecture”at a Jewish school and ask first shot grazed its leg. Done to raise its profile no doubt.
What does the photographer Perez look like?
The video shows the guard and shows a bearded man quickly packing something up. An article attached describes a ‘Transgender Woman’ trespassing at the school.
Is this related the same story?
Any photographer should have already cleared their work through the school ahead of time.
However, if the photographer was Trans and dressed in a strange manner, that might produce a less than welcome reception. Not justified, but somewhat understandable considering we are speaking of a children’s schoolgrounds.
I’m surprised that harassing a school isn’t some kind of violation akin to a noise prohibition.
Maybe the guy with the camera made a motion simulating drawing a weapon. If so, then the guard could have reasonably been in fear for his life.
“Show me your ID!”
“Let me just whip this out!”
Your sentence structure is causing me some anxiety, Mr./Mz principal.
Transgender THING is more like it.... neither male nor female.
I’m somewhat familiar with this movement. It’s widespread, with practitioners in many states. They call themselves ‘First Amendment Auditors’. Search for that phrase on YouTube, and you’ll see hundreds of their videos.
Their goal is to exercise their First Amendment rights. They film whatever they can see while on public property. In theory, that’s a very good thing. It’s a free country.
But instead of politely explaining what they are doing, they are usually rude. As in:
Guard: What are you doing with that camera?
Guy: I’m doing whatever I want. Get away from me.
Having said that, the guard in this particular instance was 100% wrong, and should go to jail for it. You don’t shoot someone just for filming a building - any building - from a public place.
.
Weren’t there a couple of muslim guys who were going around, filming themselve throwing fake bombs at people - all for a good laugh...and didn’t one of them get shot?
If he/she/it is on a public street/sidewalk, they do have the right to film “wherever and whenever they please.” There is no indication that they were trespassing onto private property. It is not illegal to film something in plain view from a public street.
Even youtube freakazoids have inherent rights to speech and press. School security should have stayed on campus. In this case, it appears that guard overstepped their bounds.
If the off center person is outside and not threatening anyone, tell them to leave or take them into custody. DO NOT use lethal force unless a life is on the line.
Look, I’m not defending life-styles here, but you don’t gun someone down for taking video, trespassing or not.
At least not > IMO.
I don’t disagree but you would think given the climate they would ask or let them know
I was back in town for a high school reunion in ‘05. A friend and I stopped by the school to take some pictures. I had just mentioned that we probably looked suspicious when the Principle and Vice Principal came walking out and asked WTH we were doing. After we made some quick explanations and apologies the Principal gave us a tour and caught us up on the changes.
This is a rural school and it was about a week before classes started.
It would have been polite to inform the school, which would have at least limited the concern. But asking would have implied that the school could refuse permission, which is not the case.
They were rude or at least inconsiderate, which is unfortunate, but not illegal.
Aw shucks they finally got Furry Potato I’ve been watching her Youtube audits recently so I knew exactly who it was when I saw the headline.
Isn’t that the truth. I had to read that statement 3 times. Then I read comment 2 and thought to myself, I really just need to go back to bed.
NO. I watch a lot of these first amendment auditors. They do good work. They film from public. Perfectly legal. They don’t want confrontation, but they hold their ground if it comes.
It’s amazing how many people in govt think filming what people can see, from public, is illegal.
I support these photographers, as long as they’re not being asses, 100%
Well, nobody has covered themnselves in glory with this one.
Given what happened in Pittsburgh and the fact this is a Jewish School the YouTube “Personality” should have been clearer in explaining what they were doing and their legal right to do so.
The security guard was clearly overzealous in shooting first and asking questions later.
He is going to get fired and prosecuted, It is having to deal with a bullet hole in it’s body...
