CHARLOTTE, N.C. There are growing concerns over a potential dark side to the NBA All-Star weekend in Charlotte.
We're talking about human trafficking, and the numbers are already staggering. Charlotte ranks eighth-highest in the nation for reported human trafficking cases. In 2017, North Carolina had 221 reported cases of trafficking, while South Carolina saw 118 reported cases.
Officials say both the NBA All-Star Game and CIAA basketball tournaments are large-scale sporting events that could be magnets for human traffickers, with police out in full force and on high alert.
"Anybody can be a human trafficker, anybody can be a victim," said one Charlotte official.

No, not really.
Imagine that!
Hookers and high rollers!
Whoda ever thunk of that!
Makin’ it rain in the VIP room.
Exactly. Officialdom loves to pretend that the world is a threat so they can treat it as such.
It reminds me of the ‘Anyone can get AIDS’ scare of the 80s and 90s. Turns out the people getting AIDS were and are the people susceptible to it. Everyone else is doing fine.
Uh-oh. Someone's going to get canned for that.

Anytime/Anywhere you have a concentration of Democrats, there will be a surge in sex trafficking and other crimes. Is the NBA All-Star game a concentration of Democrats? You bet it is. One of the reasons I despise the NBA.
Is “sex trafficking” as the terminology is used in this 21st Century another word for plain old “pimp”?
If it’s something else, please explain.
It may be a rather fine distinction, but I’ve seen stories of ordinary women getting drugged at bars, kidnapped and forced into prostitution, basically working as sex slaves in one city or another. There would be a pimp involved, but I think this sort of kidnapping makes the trafficking cases distinct from more common prostitution.
“sex trafficking”: hookers showing up in anticipation of business opportunities.
ROGER THAT!
Well, there you have it!
I rest my case!
. .ok, so it’s the “kidnapped” and “forced” part that is, generally speaking, the difference between “pimping” and “sex trafficking”... ..
got it and thanks!
The worlds newest profession?
So are NBA fans very likely to want to purchase female companionship? What the heck?
By the end of the convention, the operator had gained enough influence to access hundreds of millions in lending for his projects, virtually all of which failed due to the diversion of money into various private accounts of the operator. The federal government prosecuted a few low-level loan officers for fraud but the crooked operator and the senior bankers involved escaped that effort. The taxpayers footed most of the cost of the bad loans.
