The Chippewa Valley school district in suburban Detroit didnt retreat in 2017 after voters overwhelmingly defeated its proposal to borrow $90 million for spending pitched as protecting the communitys investment in our schools.
Instead it rebranded the package as if lives were on the line as an effort to literally protect students. Last year, voters approved the bond proposal with the campaign tag line safe schools, strong schools emphasizing the need for new security funding.
School districts around the nation have found that security sells in the year since a troubled student killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.
Hundreds of districts have moved to arm teachers or staff, a once unthinkable notion. Along with that much-publicized development is a quieter one with high price tags stretching long into the future: officials borrowing billions, with little taxpayer pushback, for added security staffing, mental health counselors and protective upgrades no matter how tangential some of the spending may be to the stated purpose.
Much of it comes in bond measures because they are easier to pass using the appeal of safety and security.
Although many districts have reported a rise in safety issues since the Department of Education insisted in 2014 that schools adopt more lenient discipline policies to address racial disparities in suspension rates, this has not been emphasized in the bond campaigns. The Trump administration rescinded those Obama-era guidelines last month.

The only method available to protect is to confuse the enemy into believing it will be the enemy to lose their life and not you or yours

I look forward to the first perp to get lit up before he hurts someone.
There is great uncertainty in not knowing whether the snake you are about to play with has fangs or not.
Interesting point of view but in life one is forced to play with the two legged snakes. Some bite some dont bite
Here in Az it’s pretty hard to try and guess who might or not bite. In Ca is pretty safe to say almost none do. :)
I always for safety purposes apply the 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 rule
If we are paying to arm and train the teachers what are the expectations? If shots are heard in the hall outside a classroom, are teachers expected to remain with their class or are they expected to go into the hallway and engage the shooter?
This is an outright lie: “a once unthinkable notion”
“Hundreds of districts have moved to arm teachers or staff, a once unthinkable notion”
USA schools do not teach real American History anymore, only propaganda history that is anti-2nd Amendment.
SCHOOLS ARE GUN ZONES
Children of the present day would be somewhat startled to go to school attended by large dogs, to keep off the bears and other wild animals, to study all day by the crackle of the great fire and back logs, to hear the howling of wolves at rollcall, and see the teacher take from its resting place over the door, a trusty rifle to guard the way home. Such were the first schools in 1800.

Just south of usn`s` s here in the mountains, during the War of 1812, schoolmarms fought off roving bands of British-allied Indian raiders from Canada who attacked the schools- Does that answer your questions?”
“He who studies history finds the day`s problems already solved in the past greatly accomplished.” `
A lot of churches are doing the exact same thing.
It’s a damn shame that this has come to America.
This is what the communist RATS have foisted upon us.
Liberalism destroys everything it touches.
My VA dermatologist says he was just recruited to provide (undercover) security at his church.
Public schools the nation over are staffed by the UFT and the NEA. I can’t believe they will actually permit the money to be spent effectively. Maybe they’ll give a revolver to the burnt out psycho teacher with the nervous tick, and encourage his pupils to drive him over the edge. Then when he goes postal, they can point to that as proof that arming teachers is a mistake.
“...My VA dermatologist says he was just recruited to provide (undercover) security at his church....”
Ours is a medium-sized church and we have at least 8 trained (a couple former combat vets, local cops, etc.) members who are armed, undercover and strategically located during service. We have held several “live shooter event” practice drills coordinated with our local county sheriff SWAT teams. They know who our guys are and we know them....some very personally as they actually attend service themselves. We have cameras covering all our our doors, hallways, nursery, parking lots, entrance ways etc. and are constantly monitored by a member of our security team. Our security team also remains in constant radio contact with each other throughout the service. IF trouble breaks out, they ALL know it at the same time to avoid any additional confusion. Two members (in case one should happen to be taken out) are designated to immediately call 911 if we should ever have a live shooter event...God forbid.
Just before service starts, all the side & back doors are kept locked to the outside but have panic bars on the inside to allow a quick exit in case of a fire, etc. The main front door remains unlocked but kept under constant armed surveillance throughout the entire service.
THAT is the reaction to what these insane DS commie lib RATs have foisted upon America...but so be it.
And over the next 20 years as the Figures come in from State Lines, With Gun Free Schools/Without, we’ll Still be listening to the same idiot, totalitarian anti gun arguments.
