Roberts joins Supreme Court's liberal wing in blocking Louisiana abortion law
Fox News ^ | February 7, 2019

Chief Justice John Roberts joined the Supreme Court's liberal wing on Thursday in temporarily blocking a Louisiana law that would have placed restrictions on abortion clinics, in the high court's first major ruling on abortion since the confirmation of Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

The ruling comes as Roberts, who was appointed by President George W. Bush, has increasingly and deliberately sought to present the federal judiciary as nonpartisan, amid a flurry of attacks from progressive groups arguing that the Supreme Court's new conservative majority imperils the country. Last year, in a highly unusual statement, Roberts rebuked President Trump for criticizing partisanship in the federal judiciary.

He “joins”? Since when has he not been part of the “liberal wing” right from the start?

They got to him. For sure. Some time ago it would seems. RBG needs to be replaced and soon.

More like he was already part of them from the start. That is the way it is with RINOs.

How did Ginsburg vote if she’s not actually present and voting at the Supreme Court?

Roberts is compromised... need to get a few more Trump appointees on the court.. this man cannot be relied upon to do what is right.

Does anyone recall if the Dems objected to Roberts being appointed to the SC?

I seem to remember thinking at the time: “Wow, Bush got him in without appreciable resistance!”.

Just looked up the vote: 78 Yes, 22 No.

All Republicans and HALF of the Dems voted to appoint Roberts.

He was a Deep State appointment and is no conservative.

Bush knew what he was doing. He picked a guy with no discernable record. His second pick was Harriet Miers, who would have been to the left of RBG in the long run.

That’s becoming clear as it is becoming clear that he is COMPROMISED!

The sad thing is that the Louisiana law really is meant solely to help insure the best medical care for the mothers undergoing abortions by providing for continuity of care in case of emergency. I would think SCOTUS would be 9 - 0 on that.

He makes political decisions (He wants the court to be seen a certain way). He’s supposed to just stick to the law. Fascinating how the New York Law hasn’t been halted by this newly unelected political body.

Since when has he not been part of the “liberal wing” right from the start?

He actually DID vote to uphold a similar Texas law in 2016. So, this would be a major flip-flop if he doesn't vote to uphold this law.
