Weve seen quite a few rule changes discussed this week for Major League Baseball from the universal DH to a three-batter minimum for relief pitchers. They might happen, they might not. Such is the process of baseball negotiating rule changes every year.
One thing *is* changing this year, however and it might surprise you.
Major League Baseball confirmed to ESPN on Thursday that its changing the name of the Disabled List to the Injury List. The genesis of the rule? Disability advocates asked Major League Baseball to change the name because so people wouldnt confuse disabilities and injuries and further the thinking that a disability means someone cant play a sport.
From ESPNs Jeff Passan:
Deputy commissioner Dan Halem said the change was made at the suggestion of advocacy groups for the disabled, including the Link 20 Network. Jeff Pfeifer, MLBs senior director of league economics and operations, notified clubs of the name change in a memo written in December.
In recent years, the commissioner has received several inquiries regarding the name of the Disabled List,' Pfeifer wrote. The principal concern is that using the term disabled for players who are injured supports the misconception that people with disabilities are injured and therefore are not able to participate or compete in sports. As a result, Major League Baseball has agreed to change the name Disabled List to be the Injured List at both the major and minor league levels. All standards and requirements for placement, reinstatement, etc., shall remain unchanged. This change, which is only a rebranding of the name itself, is effective immediately.

The Cant Hit Shirt List?
Bump
PC libs have won on every single dumb issue - when will we say “Basta!”?
More unnecessary virtue signaling stupidity.
And how about them White Sox? Better be changing that racist name.
It’s stupid.
Sports are becoming as stupid as the society that it entertains.
Shouldn’t it be the Cleveland Indigenous Persons?
'First Base' (kissing) becomes 'rightmost base'.
'Second Base' (breast play) becomes 'middle base'.
'Third Base' ((censored)) becomes 'leftmost base'.
'Home plate' can remain 'Home plate'! because UNLIKE THE FIRST THREE, IT ISN'T A SEXUAL TERM!
LET THE EMASCULATION OF BASEBALL CONTINUE!
So many social injustices to correct, so little time to correct them all before society falls apart.
Here in Minneapolis they are changing history. I guess the old name offended me or something.
I think “injury list” is a more accurate description than “disabled list.’
You can tell you’re doing too many recreational drugs when the MLB “Disabled List” triggers you. These jerks need to get a life.
First it was crippled. Then that was politically incorrect.
Then it was handicapped. Then that was politically incorrect.
Then it was disabled.
Now I’ve seen non-disabled to refer to normal people.
And 100% of people will continue to use the term ‘DL.’
Advocacy groups are merely more Orwellian foot soldiers.
This is very good. I’m sure it will miraculously cure many disabled people makkng them injured people.
They say theyre going to pre-board those passengers in need of special assistance cripples! Simple honest direct language. Theres no shame attached to the word cripple I can find in any dictionary. In fact its a word used in Bible translations. Jesus healed the cripples. Doesnt take seven words to describe that condition. But we dont have cripples in this country anymore. We have the physically challenged. Is that a grotesque enough evasion for you? How about differently-abled? Ive heard them called that. Differently-abled! You cant even call these people handicapped anymore. They say: Were not handicapped, were handy capable! These poor people have been bullshitted by the system into believing that if you change the name of the condition somehow youll change the condition. Well, hey cousin doesnt happen!
George Carlin
So do employees no longer take short term disability and long term disabled leave of absence?
Disabled is what it is.
Better change the color of those baseballs, too.
