“...The reporter’s goal is to provide information (often with An Agenda). ....”

And it doesn’t have to be true! Just compelling and coherent, if it fits a few know facts some much the better!

Even better if the if the reporters product also fits the biases of the target audience!

Remember there’s more truth then meets the eye in the old saying “If it bleeds it leads!”

Goals is get you buy, listen, or watch! Presenting facts not so much!

And always has been the case!

It’s an age old media tactic. Sometimes it really bothers me when the title can actually create harm to others even though it is totally misleading compared to the article. But part of it is our own fault for not actually reading the article and just having a kneejerk reaction to the title. That’s the problem with millennials, They only read and act on the headline with no further investigation. And it works well and they know it and exploit it.

RE: I want to believe

I'd like to believe as well. I looked into all this stuff pretty thoroughly years ago and came to the conclusion that there is something to it. What that something is, I really don't know.

I'd like to think that some UFOs are real, and at least approximately what popular theories speculate. Mainly because it means that 1) Einstein is wrong - the speed of light is not a cosmic speed limit, or 2) even if the SOL is inviolate, there is a way around it.

The reason I'd like for these 2 propositions to be true, is because it gives me hope that we, as a species can actually survive. If we can't eventually get off this rock, we know that in the absolute best case, we have until the Sun becomes unstable. Granted that may be far in the future, but it is most assuredly in our future. I really don't see how someone could build the multi-generational ships that would be required for extra-solar travel because in a closed system, which is what those ships would need to be, you still have to deal with entropy and other losses. I just don't see how they could possibly be viable for the hundreds, if not thousands of years they'd have to work flawlessly.

In addition to the above two points, I might add a third, which is that you may be able to survive if you can come up with a way to tap zero-point energy in a useful way.

I suspect that Space Force will have quite a bit to do with the R&D as well as deployment and operation of Orbital Kinetic Bombardment weapons. Under Obama’s admin, the budget for these programs was greatly reduced to a point where the development slowed to a trickle. The Chinese made huge strides and pulled away a bit in the field of railgun tech. We have ground to make up.

I saw a movie that was made by the US Naval Space Command that came from the late 1950’s.

What’s happening now is the public surfacing. Disclosure is coming, I would think.

Look, it makes no sense to have a space force dedicated to protecting against extraterrestrials. BUT it makes perfect sense to have a space force dedicated to fighting and winning terrestrial foes using space capabilities. It’s the highest of the high ground and whoever controls it wins.

Splitting into a new Force with its own academy eventually.

The humor of academy students being called Space Cadets will be pretty funny in the beginning.

I think we have mastered Zero Point and why it would need to be a big secret.

Me too. I certainly hope there's intelligent life somewhere in the universe...

Kicking the legs out from under the coal and oil industries would be rather disruptive. Not only in terms of job losses, but reducing the emissions of the essential plant nutrient, CO2 could trigger not only famine but a global ice age...

I would be fascinated to hear what unclassified technology would allow a solid object to hover without noise, please enlighten me.

Even more so for a black technology that can do that, in which case FReepmail me details, I won’t tell a soul, promise...

I think we have mastered Zero Point and why it would need to be a big secret.

Let's say that you could build a Zero Point Module (ZPM - borrowing from Stargate). Let's also say the thing is small, say something between the size of a basketball to something the size of a car engine. Let's further say the device can create craploads of power, at least enough to power a small plane. So, what do you have? You have a small delivery system that could fly NOE from Iran (or North Korea) to any point on the earth using GPS, or even inertial reckoning to reach any point on the Earth. Do you think whackjob muslims or other assorted evil doers wouldn't use that to put a nuke anywhere they might want it? It wouldn't even have to be particularly fast, as long as it flew close enough to the ground (or water) to be lost in in the clutter.

So yeah, I can see why we might not know about such things.

An airship could do it. Just about any lighter than air craft can be just about as silent as you'd like. Granted, I don't think that's what the wedges we've been hearing rumors of for a long time now are LTA craft, but they could be. Such a craft might not fit other rumored flight characteristics.
