Democrats and the media are protesting that the socialist label doesnt apply to them...what are they afraid ofthe label or their own ideas?
...consider the Democratic agenda that is emerging from Congress and the partys presidential contenders.
Medicare for All. Sanders plan, endorsed by 16 Senators, would replace all private health insurance in the U.S. with a federally administered single-payer health-care program. Government would decide what care to deliver, which drugs to pay for, and how much to pay doctors and hospitals. Private insurance would be banned.
Green New Deal. ...this would mean a complete remake of American electric power, transportation and manufacturing. ...as imagined by AOC, all of this would be planned by a Select Committee For a Green New Deal. Soviet five-year plans were more modest.
guaranteed government job. ...no longer a fringe idea. Obama's Center for American Progres, supports a government job for everyone to counter the effects of reduced bargaining power, technical change, globalization,
new system for corporate control. Warren wants a federal charter for businesses with >$1 B revenue that would make companies answer to more than shareholders. Employees would elect 40% of directors...radical redesign of corporate governance would give politicians and their interest groups new influence over private business decisions and assets.
Vastly higher taxes. Sanders wants top death tax rate of 77%. AOC wants 70% tax rate on high incomes. Warren wants 2% wealth tax on assets >$50 million and 3% >$1 billion
Some readers might think this is all so extreme it could never happen. The leftward lurch of Democratic voters, especially the young, means the party could nominate the most left-wing presidential candidate in U.S. history. If other Democratic candidates oppose any or all of this, wed like to hear them.

How is the use of a 529 plan considered "embracing socialism?"
By that logic, isn't contributing to a 401k plan the same? An IRA?
Just,,,
Damn!
"Oh, but this time it'll be different!" No, it will not. Socialism is just one of those ideas that sounds good, but fails utterly, completely, predictably, and consistently. It has not worked and it never will. Inevitably socialism degenerates into ever more oppressive policies. You end up needing draconian fascist tactics to force productive people to support the unproductive ones. There are always unproductive, lazy people gaming the system. The system is fundamentally flawed. It can't be tweaked, it can't be fixed. Socialism sucks, it is an "epic fail."
Anyone and everyone I hear advocating for leftist socialist policies I figure has some mix of a couple of very unattractive qualities. If you advocate for socialist policies you must be mean and hate people. By mean I mean just nasty: you're the kind of person that loves to spread misery, kick cats, leave dogs outside in heat/cold, take candy from babies (literally), kill the unborn. You think people like Pol Pot, Che, Hitler, Stalin, just didn't quite get it right. That kind of ugly person. Well, that, and/or you are just breathtakingly ignorant of the facts and so stupid, genuinely stupid and incapable of learning, that you don't know those are the kind of people you're following.
If you tell me you're a socialist, I hate you. You are a danger to the rest of us. I literally would not spit on the sidewalk to save your life - the world would be a better place without you.
As Senator Kamala Harris put it recently on CNN, the idea is that everyone gets access to medical care, and you dont have to go through the process of going through an insurance company, having them give you approval, going through the paperwork, all of the delay that may require. Who of us has not had that situation, where youve got to wait for approval, and the doctor says, well, I dont know if your insurance company is going to cover this? Lets eliminate all of that. Lets move on.That is just so outlandish and absurd...she actually thinks the government will say "OK" and say it quickly. As you say, their answer most of the time will be "No, it costs too much and you are nothing but a useless eater." The "No" answers will come on the same day as your request. The "Yes" answers will take a year to get. And there will be NOBODY you can call as everybody you talk to will say "That's no my job, but Pedro can help you." Then Pedro will say "That's not my job, but let me put you in touch with Sha'zama - she can help you." Then Sha'zama will say "That's not my job, but I think Rajeev is the right person. Please hold."
I totally agree with you (as does my wife and my sister). We are probably past the point of no return.
And it will progress to children from newborns and infants. Then it will progress from octogenarians to people in their 60s. Then it will progress to anybody who disagrees with Big Brother or "the revolution." It's coming.
The young, beautiful and ideologically correct will have nothing to fear. But everyone else ...
Since going on Medicare 7 years ago, I have had two important medical incidents - a detached retina, and prostate cancer.
The detached retina had to be reattached by a highly skilled specialist - one with many years of education and training beyond becoming an MD. She had a laboratory full of VERY expensive optical and electronic equipment. Her bill for the procedure was well over $3,000. Medicare paid less than $150 for "Payment in full".
To find my prostate cancer, a "Fusion Biopsy" was required. This uses an MRI image fed into special prostate ultrasound equipment to match the ultrasound image with the MRI image, and take the biopsy in the proper regions. Again, expensive equipment and trained specialists are required. The bill was over $3,500, and Medicare paid less than $200.
As per US law, the Medicare payment is "payment in full".
For this 'free' insurance, I still must add an additional $4,000 per year, for sundry additional insurance such ad drugs, hospitalization, and Medicare Part B. Keep in mind, that I also paid an additional significant percentage of my income for the last 54 years of working for the 'free' part.
In addition, my wellness doctor for 35 years has had a "full schedule" for the dozen, or so, times I have tried to schedule my annual exam for the last four years. He's been "too busy" to keep me well. I honestly can't blame him. In the past, he has been paid as much as $7,000 for an annual visit. Medicare now pays him $85.
Doctors and hospitals, obviously, must make up for the difference between what Medicare pays and the actual costs, by charging others more than that. Medicare for All would eliminate this option. The end result will be Soviet style lines for hangnails as well as car crashes, and doctors who must moonlight as street vendors in order to feed their families.
You mix in benefits we paid for (forcibly by the government) with the socialist ones.
You say my GI benefits are socialism??? You are one big knot head!
Ill bet you are one of those Principled Conservatives who sits on his hand some election day, to send the party a message!.
I wouldn’t be too sure that Obama isn’t behind a lot of this. He’s awful quiet for a guy who just couldn’t shut up. I’d bet a dollar on a donut that he holds regular sessions in his DC pad with loyalist stooges who go forth to spread this nonsense.
A guaranteed government job for all. To assist in this 10-year transformation of society, the Green New Deals authors would provide all members of our society, across all regions and all communities, the opportunity, training and education to be a full and equal participant in the transition, including through a job guarantee program to assure a living wage job to every person who wants one.
This is no longer a fringe idea. The Center for American Progress, Barack Obamas think tank, supports a government job for everyone to counter the effects of reduced bargaining power, technical change, globalization, and presidential candidate Kirsten Gillibrand tweeted her support for it as an alternative to tax reform.
Medicare is goo
Medicare advantage is great
Young doctors are best
This whole GND idea is from an young, naive, economically-challenged, former bartender. Do the democRATS really want to hang their hat of this wet-behind-behind-the-ears, flash in the pan for their platform? Let's not forget that Nicolas Maduro was a former bus driver, before becoming the tyrant he has become in destroying Venezuela almost single-handedly.
To pay for it, she thinks taxing the rich at a 70% rate would do it. Or like she said in one interview, we could just print the money. Facts don't matter if it is the "moral" thing to do. Show me one democRAT who knows anything about morals.
How this woman ever got an economics degree is beyond me, unless her she slept through though classes where they explained that socialism has never worked in the history of the world, ever.
I mean, she couldn't even get to her seat in Congress before she was whining about how she didn't have any money and didn't know how she was going to make it until her taxpayer's check came through. This is someone we want to place the future of our Republic in the hands of?
Instead of embracing this gal, the democRATS should be running away from her as fast as possible if they ever want to win any elections from now on. And yet, that liberal idiot who runs the DNC now, Tom Perez, claims she is the future of the party.
If their goal is to destroy the country, then what's their next move after they've accomplished that? They haven't thought that far ahead, trust me. DemocRATS, the party off unintended consequences.
Let them slit their own throats. All we can to is give them the knife, which I'm glad to offer.
Sure, as long as you don't travel anywhere.
Who should I credit this to when I steal it?
Look at my profile..... I travel all over and in fact get the care I require whereever I am
Yes, how she ever got a degree is beyond me but on the other hand I think that’s very telling about how screwed up our universities are today. Does she not understand how investment works? How jobs are created? Where does she think the money comes from to start a new company? Who does she think pays for all the equipment, trucks, offices, buildings, computers, training, uniforms, etc etc? And she says being rich is immoral? Thank God for the rich, thank God we have a system where the goal is profit which forces fiscal responsibility. Can you imagine having all investment run by the government, putting that responsibility into the hands of the government where the goal of making a profit is non-existent? We’d be nuking money, jobs would disappear faster than Michael Moore and a plate of donuts, and what happens when all the money is gone? We become Venezuela.
I’m afraid we’re going to do all of the above once enough of us FReepers assume room temperature to reach the tipping point.
