Houston Gunfight as Deadly as OK Corral; Home Owner uses AK47 in Self Defense

On January 19th, 2019, at about one a.m. in the morning, a gunfight occurred on Sherman Street in Houston, Texas. It was in the Magnolia Park neighborhood.

Magnolia Park has been a traditionally ethnic Mexican part of Houston for over 100 years.  It is considered a bit rough. There were five home invaders. There was one home defender. From abc13.com:

Authorities are investigating after dozens of shots were fired in east Houston.

According to a detective, the incident began as a home invasion at the 7000 block of Sherman.

Authorities say the homeowner defended himself when the suspects entered the home. Following the shooting, the suspects fled from the scene.

Two armed home invaders broke in. One of the home invaders was reported as shot in the leg and running from the house. He survived.  One home invader died in the front yard. Another person, believed to be one of the home invaders, was found dead in a car two blocks from the scene. A fourth suspect ended up in the hospital and died there. The fifth suspect was wounded, fled the scene, and was being treated in the hospital.

The home-owner gave an interview to Stefania Okolie, reporting from abc13.com. The interview is only on video. I did not see a transcript.

I’m curious as to what attracted the bad guys to the house. They would’ve had better luck sticking up the local 7/11.

From the interview the homeowner’s loaded AK-47 was right there; they were demanding money and thought he was reaching for it - instead he started shooting. Later he found out the ski-masked individuals were from his neighborhood.

Looks like reasonable, common-sense gun control to me.

This is very interesting. This happened very close (within a mile I think) from where 5 Houston police officers were shot in a no-knock raid a few days ago. Shows that the area justifies being well-armed and ready to respond to a home invasion.

Still wonder if the couple in the no-knock raid were wrongly targeted and may have not realized they were shooting at cops. We’ll never know because they’re dead.

apparently they never found any heroin as the original report entailed... looking more and more like the wrong house was raided in a no-knock scenario.

It is clear the no knock raid in Houston was a significant overreach of what no-knock raids were originally designed for.

No knock raids are just officially sponsored home invasions.

It is disturbing that the people "investigating" the no-knock raid are from the Houston Police Department, the same department that conducted the raid!

At minimum, the Texas Rangers should be called in to investigate.

A department should not investigate themselves.

one a.m. in the morning

Is there another 1 a.m.? Everyone who "writes" for this rag is semi-literate at best.

As opposed to one a.m. in the evening? A bunch of baboons from the local zoo can write more understandable stories.

It is a bit unusual to have a loaded AK-47 under one’s couch, so I would expect police to be doing a pretty thorough investigation...

That’s said, glad to hear that the homeowner is OK and that 5 perps were stopped

5 to 1 is considered the bare minimum to take a defended position. And that’s with a trained and experienced crew attacking.
