CBS News: Most viewers approved of Trump's second State of the Union address
CBS "News" ^ | February 6, 2019 | By Anthony Salvanto, others

Seventy-six percent of Americans who tuned in to President Trump's State of the Union address Tuesday night approved of the speech he gave. Just 24 percent disapproved.

As is often the case in State of the Union addresses, the people who watched tonight's speech leaned more towards the president's own party, at least compared to Americans overall. In the latest CBS national poll released last month, 25 percent of Americans identified themselves as Republicans. Among those who watched Tuesday night's address, that figure was 43 percent, and Republicans helped bolster the overall approval of the address.

And while 97 percent of Republicans approved of the speech, far fewer Democrats who tuned in did (30 percent). Most independents did approve.

Fifty-six of Americans who watched tonight feel the president's speech will do more to unite the country, rather than divide it, although 36 percent don't think it will change things much.

Democrats who watched the speech see things differently, however. Just 15 percent of Democrats think the president's speech will unite the country.

This CBS News survey is based on 1,472 interviews of U.S. adults who watched the State of the Union address on Tuesday night. The survey was conducted by YouGov using a representative sample of 9,322 U.S. adults who were initially interviewed online between Feb. 1 to 4, 2019, to indicate whether they planned to watch the address, and if they were willing to be re-interviewed after the address. Only those who watched the address were included in the analysis.

The initial sample of U.S. adults was weighted according to gender, age, race, and education based on the American Community Survey, conducted by the U.S. Bureau of the Census, as well as the 2016 presidential vote. The final sample of post-address re-interviews was weighted to be representative of those who said they would watch the State of the Union address according to gender, age, race, education, and party identification. The margin of error is +/- 3 percent.

Somebody’s head exploded when SeeBS reported this. One wonders why they didn’t bury their poll results when they saw them.

Makes me wonder what portion of US voters are Democrat. I’ve seen this study cited various places today and all say something about 25% of population are Republicans but none say what percentage are Democrats. Not sure who would tell the truth about that but there must be some gov agency that might tell the truth?

The MAJORITY of viewers were NOT Republican! 54% were Democrat or Independent voters compared to just 43% being Republican.

So much for the MSM meme.

Drudge Report is reporting that initial viewer numbers for the POTUS, Trump “State-Of-The-Union” speech attracted 41,000,000 viewers. However those numbers do not contain the viewer numbers from C-Span and dozens of “Live Feeds” throughout the country and around the world. I suspect the real final number will approach 45-50 million viewers, a stunning number for a SOTU address.

No matter what final viewer numbers turn out to be, POTUS, Donald J. Trump started his 2020 re-election campaign by hitting a “Grand Slam, Home Run”!!! and...his poll numbers for the speech went through the roof across the board. MAGA...POTUS, Trump. We, the people , are with you 100%!!!

“Yep, and most real conservatives”

I didn’t say anything about “real conservatives”. Or what network they watch.

In my world “real conservatives” make up about 2% of the electorate and don’t watch the TeeVee.

I said those who watched have some affinity for Trump.

As an example: Did you watch even ONE of Obama’s SOTU speeches?

Me neither.

Thanks for posting.

Astonishing that 82 percent of Independents also approve of the speech. No wonder the press is trying to put a reverse spin on this and the CNN poll. There must be even worse news in the crosstabs, which cannot be accessed by open link. I have asked for them to see where the minority opinion lies.

In the CNN poll, you can get a link to the crosstabs, and the numbers there are really quite devastating in all areas.

http://cdn.cnn.com/cnn/2019/images/02/05/rel3.-.sotu.reax.pdf

You see positive number at 70% or higher in all areas: Economy, Trade, National Defense, Immigration, and Foreign affairs among all groups, ages, men, women, and income categories as well as education. Independents again were hugely impressed with Trump. CNN did not report minority crosstabs, they say, because of the low number of respondents. I have a feeling that the numbers there might really be scary for Dems and MSM.

CNN reports that 59% of views are very positive. Nowhere in the CNN news story do you see that 17% saw the speech as somewhat positive. CNN reports that 23% saw the SOTU in a negative light, but that number is sorted into 13% as somewhat negative and 10% as strongly negative. By those numbers and the reporting of the positive numbers you are allowed to entertain the notion that only 10% of viewers saw the speech as strongly negative and 90% thought better of it than that.

I realize of course that it’s a stretch to mess with numbers as I just did in the previous sentence, but the points I really wish to make here are that:

1. The president hit a home run and almost everybody in the stadium is on their feet cheering except for the opposing dugout and press box.

2. The Dems and MSM’s best pitchers have been shellacked. No relievers (or new ideas in sight).

3. The president can proceed with confidence in all the areas I mentioned above, knowing he has the support of the people.

4. The 2020 Re-election strategy can be pursued with confidence.

According to the CBS Poll a quarter of the watchers were Democrats. It’s doubtful they would have an affinity for Trump!

Never saw them acknowledge this when they claimed folks were raving over Obama....

With a 26% “disapproval” I’d hazard that a number of those suffering TDS watched because they wanted to see their Dem rebutters try to wipe the floor with him ...something he made impossible by the very nature of the epic speech.
