2018 was the fourth warmest year on record -- and more evidence of a ‘new normal,’
Washington Post ^ | January 24 2019 | Chris Mooney

The year 2018 is likely to have been the fourth warmest year on record, a scientific group pronounced Thursday -- and joins three other extra-hot years since 2015 that suggest a leap upward in warmth that the Earth may never return from in our lifetimes.

The warmest year on record for the Earth’s land and oceans was 2016 -- by a long shot, thanks to a very strong El Nino event. That’s followed by 2017, 2015, and now 2018, said Zeke Hausfather, a research scientist with Berkeley Earth, which released the findings.

“2018 is consistent with the long term warming trend,” Hausfather said. “It’s significantly warmer than any of the years before 2015. There’s still this big bump up after 2014, and 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 are all in a class of their own.”

ETC...

You state the basic facts of the approaching grand solar minimum very well, my friend.

Although the vast majority of people are blissfully unaware of it now, it will soon become the biggest event of our lifetimes.

Literally everything we’re focused on today, will take a back seat to this issue by 2024.

You have touched on a pet peeve of mine. This such and such number on record is really meaningless. A somewhat accurate thermometer was not invented till 1714. I wonder when it’s use became widespread beyond just Europe, the East coast of North America and a handful of other places around the world. A few sailing ships would have carried them but the size of the oceans make that record suspect. I think you have to at least get to WW2 before you would have had something close to enough coverage for measurements to be truly global. Even then we don’t really have good worldwide records until satellites in space in the 1960’s. We really have just barely over 50 years of good enough temperature records globally to be accurate or truly useful. That is way to short for any kind of global climate trend or measurement.

Well it’s -60* in Chicago and its 70* in Ft. Lauderdale that’s a difference of 130* and if that doesn’t prove globull warming I don’t know what more proof do you need.

The year 2018 is *likely* to have been the fourth warmest year on record,

---------

Why that word? Because the calculation is a statistical exercise, and the margins are so narrow.

The warmest year on record for the Earth’s land and oceans was 2016 -- by a long shot,

The week after this was released, the other shoe dropped by the climate scientists who made the announcement - that the percentage chance of this being true was on the order of 37%.

"If the hypothesis of man-made global warming is true, every year with increasing CO2 should mean each year should be warmer."

CO2 is still only 345 ten-thousandths of one percent of the atmosphere. That is .0345 of 1%.

The rest of the air we breathe is 78% Nitrogen. 21% Oxygen and 1% of the rest of the gases. Of which CO2 is the percentage shown above.

I call bs. I want to know whre evey recoding device is and how often they are calibrated and by whom.

It's gotten even worse now. In order to maintain the fiction of man-made global warming, the warmists have had to resort to statistical 'smoothing' to create the illusion of rising temperatures.

In other words, they're straight up cooking the books because the real temperature data supports the exact opposite conclusion.

This stuff just makes me shake my head and smile grimly.

It is so stupid that your tongue in cheek comment is nearly indistinguishable from reality as they see it.

Moreover, a recent study of the depths of the Pacific Ocean has revealed that while the surface temperatures are warm, the depths are still cooling as a result of the last atmospheric cooling that occurred during The Little Ice Age. This is due to the lagging effect that atmospheric temperature has on the Earth’s oceans. Any real atmospheric “warming” will not have a substantial impact on the greater bulk of our oceans until some point millennium distant into Earth’s future.

More pointedly, before that event ever occurs, we are set to enter another Grand Solar Minimum, where the Sun’s radiation output will substantially diminish to an extent that will bring Earth into a much colder climate, similar to the Maunder Minimum. This event is most likely timed to begin in earnest about the year 2030. At that time, we will wish to God there were such a thing as Anthropogenic “warming” - because millions of people, being unprepared, will perish for lack of food when massive crop failures become the norm across the entirety of Earth’s present temperate latitudes.

How does one measure the temperature of the earth? Of a year? Stop and consider.

Do this exercise, where you merely seek to measure the temperature of a SINGLE SPOT in your house at a single instant in time:

1. Get two mercury thermometers, two digital thermometers, and two curled metal ring thermometers.

2. Hang them together in a SINGLE LOCATION inside your house, next to your thermostat with its own temperature reading.

3. Wait a day to allow the devices to settle.

4. Read the temperature of all seven devices. Be as careful as possible, and read to a precision of a single decimal place.

5. Observe that your thermometers do not (I suspect) agree to a precision of a single decimal digit, and likely not even to the single degree digit.

6. Ask yourself: how does science measure the “temperature of the earth” and do so over spans of year-to-year and over decades. Ask yourself how many instruments, types of instruments, locations of measurement, degradation of the single instruments, times of day, that are involved in measuring the temperature “of the earth” over decades in order to get changes claimed in the single decimal place values.

They’re just waiting for the summer of 2019 so it can be the 3rd hottest ever

Between the “Global Warming/Climate Change” fraud and the “Eat high-carb/low-fat” scam, I’m becoming more and more convinced that our masters literally want 90% of us dead; the rest serving as serfs on their estates.

Tell ya what, if you can find the data, which is tough, see where the temperatures were monitored in 2018 and compare that to ten years earlier. If you influence the collection of data, you influence the outcome every time.

I know you can measure the temperature in Philadelphia (the most recent record high our local weather girl mentioned for a few days ago was set back in 1916 - quite a trend) and in London and in Delhi and in Moscow - but exactly how and where do you measure the “global temperature” - without a lot of shaky assumptions and approximations......

How is 2018 not the hottest year on record?

Solar and volcanic activity can play a role.
