2018 was the fourth warmest year on record -- and more evidence of a ‘new normal,’
Washington Post ^ | January 24 2019 | Chris Mooney

Posted on 01/30/2019 11:55:21 AM PST by yesthatjallen

The year 2018 is likely to have been the fourth warmest year on record, a scientific group pronounced Thursday -- and joins three other extra-hot years since 2015 that suggest a leap upward in warmth that the Earth may never return from in our lifetimes.

The warmest year on record for the Earth’s land and oceans was 2016 -- by a long shot, thanks to a very strong El Nino event. That’s followed by 2017, 2015, and now 2018, said Zeke Hausfather, a research scientist with Berkeley Earth, which released the findings.

“2018 is consistent with the long term warming trend,” Hausfather said. “It’s significantly warmer than any of the years before 2015. There’s still this big bump up after 2014, and 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 are all in a class of their own.”

ETC...

I agree and I call BS on this article.

I am sure they probably cherry picked a few HIGHS from urban concrete jungles and ignored a lot of other numbers.

The average temp of the Earth as a whole has not strayed from around 0 degrees centigrade.

Notice how they didn’t say it’s cooled off since the 2016 record. And even then, we’re talking about less than 1 degree since 1950. Do they really want us to buy into the carbon tax and other measures for less than 1 degree swing in almost 70 years?

Weather isn’t climate ... unless it’s warm weather of course.

It is amazing how they "know " this , temperature recording didnt even begin until the 17th century

"Santorio was the first to apply a numerical scale to his thermoscope, which later evolved into the thermometer. Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit (1686-1736) was the German physicist who invented the alcohol thermometer in 1709, and the mercury thermometer in 1714.

“The year 2018 is likely to have been the fourth warmest year on record”

Since 2014. Did these assholes figure out a way to take the rectal temperature of the globe? Inserted via Chicago?

Yet Satellite data, the most accurate measure, show no warming for over 20 years.

Increase correlates with increased industrial output in Asia...China, India, S. KOREA, Vietnam. So let’s require those nations to return to 1960 CO2 output.

every January every MSM outlet tells us the previous year was the warmest year on record and I haven't heard that reported this year

Very telling. They did indeed always announce the hottest year on record, but they had to resort to statistics games to do it, sometimes getting within 1/100 of a degree.

The fact they've given up means the Pause is real and not even distorted statistics can hide it.

“Fourth Warmest on Record”

On record ... So, when did official “records” of the Earth’s “average” temperature begin? BTW, on what basis is any temperature considered the “norm” for Earth?

The recording of temperatures “began officially in February 1870. It had begun on an ad hoc basis in the late 1700s. The National Weather Service has its beginnings in the early history of the United States.”

Gee, do ya think Earth’s climate “record” began long before the “official” date of recorded climate data?

The disingenuous ass wipes, who propagate this “global warming / climate change” propaganda, are dependent upon the general ignorance of the population, in regards to weather statistics and the geologically-revealed history of the Earth’s climate. They foist this garbage, without refute or impeachment, because most people have neither the time or the inclination to do even rudimentary historical research or even basic fact checking.

Lie, lie, lie.

Glaciers are growing around the world.
Arctic sea ice is practically at record levels.
It’s snowing in places where snow has not been seen in cultural memory.
Springlike conditions are beginning to appear in some of the harshest desert areas.
Winters are becoming increasingly brutal.
Crops are failing due to unseasonably cold temperatures.

These are all observed phenomena that have been documented around the planet in recent years. Such observations fly in the face of high temperature claims being made by the AGW lobby.

Both cannot be true. One or the other is a lie. Guess which one I believe is true?

Two things to explore - the rapid decline Sun spot counts over the last several cycles (Cycle 24 into cycle 25), and; the rapidly diminishing strength of the Earth’s magnetic field and and change in location of the magnetic poles (which suggest the onset of a pole reversal).

I believe we are headed, not for a warming, but a drastic cooling period, precipitated by a Grand Solar Minimum, which I am convinced by the evidence will begin in earnest around the year 2030.

The combination of reduce solar energy output - the result of our Sun’s magnetic fields going 180 degrees out of phase - and the diminishing strength of the Earth’s magnetic field, allow for a drastic increase in the amount and strength of cosmic rays entering the Earth’s atmosphere.

This increase in cosmic radiation interacts with dust and ash particles to form increased cloud cover, thus increasing the Earth’s albedo, which in turn further suppresses the amount of solar radiation admitted to our atmosphere.

One other thing - sea ice at the Arctic is increasing,, and is on track to meet or exceed that of the 2016 coverage.
