White House Says Trump Will 'Move Forward' on Wall Funding 'With or Without the Democrats'
PJ Media ^ | 01/28/2019 | Rick Moran

Posted on 01/28/2019 8:25:36 AM PST by SeekAndFind

The White House said on Friday night that Donald Trump will "move forward" with funding for a wall along the southern border "with our without the Democrats."

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee tweeted the warning while she defended the president against conservative criticism that he caved on wall funding in order to end the shutdown.

The president refused to characterize the deal as a "concession":

The Hill:

For weeks, Trump said he would not sign a funding measure that did not include money for a border wall.

At various points he suggested that he would declare a national emergency to circumvent Congress to build a border wall, but resisted taking such a move, which would surely prompt legal challenges.

The president indicated Friday that if lawmakers do not offer funding for a wall when the three-week measure ends on Feb. 15, another shutdown could begin or he could declare an emergency to build the wall.

“We’ll work with the Democrats and negotiate, and if we can’t do that, then we’ll do a – obviously we’ll do the emergency because that’s what it is. It’s a national emergency,” Trump told reporters in the Roosevelt Room of the White House.

Trump's announcement that he would sign a temporary spending bill without securing money for a border wall was met with backlash from conservatives, with immigration hard-liner Ann Coulter calling him the “biggest wimp ever to serve as president.”

So did Trump cave to the Democrats or is he playing possum? CNN has been reporting all week that the White House has been working on declaring a national emergency and would get funds to build the wall from various government sources, including the military.

What sounded like a contingency plan has taken on a new significance with the president's recent statements.

Breitbart:

The president made his remarks during a White House event with Hispanic pastors on Friday to discuss the importance of security on the Southern border.

Earlier Friday, Trump specified that he would reopen the government for three weeks to give negotiators more time to work out a border security compromise. A bipartisan committee will work together with the Department of Homeland Security to come up with a border security package for the president to sign.

The president was still adamant about funding more physical barriers on the border.

“If we don’t have that wall and we don’t have a very powerful barrier, it’s all just a waste of time,” he wrote. “It can’t work. Can’t work. So we’ll get it.”

Huckabee's question to Democrats about whether they want "something or nothing" is pertinent. Pelosi has scored her political points and, if she was smart, she would walk away from the table.

But that would cause howls of outrage from #theresistance. Trump must not only be beaten, but he must also be stomped. The anti-Trump hysteria of Democrats may play into Trump's hands by forcing Pelosi to stand firm against any wall funding, allowing Trump to delight conservatives by declaring a national emergency on the border.

Trump's so-called cave-in to Democrats was only round one. Round two may be even more interesting -- and contentious.

Well what I don’t understand is this - if he can move forward with or without them, what the heck is the point in going through all of this nonsense?

I think President Trump is setting this up to be a legal case he can win.

He has proof that he tried to work with congress but they pretty much told him to go eat shiat

He gave them plenty of time to meet him and fix this problem

the migrant caravan can be used as a reason for the emergency.

The wall/fence/wence whatever will be deterrent to future caravans, meaning less human trafficking, drugs, rapes, etc

Here's a hint: it has something to do with the election that's coming up.

If he works with congress, it looks better for him overall, he can say that he worked with the democrats for 2020

However the democrats don’t understand is, he does the emergency thing, they have zero input on the details, location, height, etc so they lose in that respect as well.

He has to go through the motions and show that he wanted to negotiate, he tried to keep the gov open etc and it was the Democrats who refused at every turn... the Dems are now on record as twice voting down funding of the government, offering only $1 for the wall, offer to take our gun rights away in exchange for the wall... he can now point to all of their nonsense and say look this is serious business... I tried to work with those children..but look how they acted... so I was forced to go another route.

Pelosi----a tax-paid American elected official-----pledges her loyalty to Mexico.

At a 2016 meeting in Mexico City, Pelosi told the Mexican president and his entourage: “We come here as a bipartisan and large delegation to express our respect for the people of Mexico and the country of Mexico; to acknowledge our shared border and our shared values and to learn more about how we can work together for the bright future for not only our two countries but for our hemisphere.”

Pelosi said the delegation had a busy time in Mexico City.

“We heard a sermon on the importance of workers in Mexico, a view we share. We’ve met with members of the American Chamber of Commerce. We had a very beneficial meeting with Director General Zapata on the subject of the economy and on the subject of TPP (trade pact) especially.

"And then we had a glorious meeting, a really very thorough exchange of subjects and views – again about our shared values and our shared border – with the President [of Mexico]......with Members of the Federal Deputies – Mexican Federal Deputies – and Senators. And this evening we will have a dinner meeting with the Foreign Minister,” Pelosi said.

I believe the point is, it is the job of congress to appropriate the funding. Trump put the onus where it belongs and he has Nancy on record that she won’t fund the wall.

In 21 days, if there is nothing put before Trump, he will use whatever discretionary funding he can find and move forward.

The only way Trump loses in 2020 is if the “weak” tag sticks.

He’s simply got to win this. The popularity of the Wall is irrelevant.

CIRCA 2016---BEFORE TRUMP GOT THE NOM AND GOT ELECTED BY 63 MILLION AMERICANS
Here's Pelosi in Mexico. Saying Trump "is speaking to an insecure minority, who maybe lost their job and
think it was because of immigration, of trade. I think it's putting too much weight on all this. He only has one half of one half, 25%."

The 2016 Mexico delegation also included Democrat Reps. Norma Torres, Lucille Roybal-Allard, Pete Aguilar and Linda Sanchez (Calif.); Beto O'Rourke and Henry Cuellar (Texas); Ruben Gallego (Ariz.); Michelle Lujan Grisham (N.M.); and Republicans Michael Fitzpatrick (Pa.) and Richard Hanna (N.Y.).

SCHADENFREUD Beto sucked-up bigtime for latino votes....but still lost his Texas race against Cruz.

RE: Well what I don’t understand is this - if he can move forward with or without them, what the heck is the point in going through all of this nonsense?

I can think of the following:

1) Good Faith. To give Democrats the chance to join a bi-partisan solution to an obvious problem. Trump wants to unite rather than divide.

2) Failing #1, To EXPOSE the Democrats for who they really are, to show their TRUE COLORS -— Weak on Security, Welcoming of illegals, and totally lawless.

Wait another 3 weeks.... it’s not going to be very long now.

I’m no lawyer, but my theory is he is exhausting every possible avenue so when he declares a national emergency and issues an executive order to build the wall, the treasonists will have less of a case when they no doubt file a lawsuit.

Nancy Pelosi's $2 million in travel junkets is starting to get noticed
American Thinker ^ | 01/23/2019 | Monica Showalter / FR Posted by SeekAndFind

Not only was President Trump's masterly counter-move against House speaker Nancy Pelosi an expert power play against the speaker's bid to take the television set away from him at the State of the Union, but it drew attention to something that doesn't get much attention, the fact that she's got some Imelda Marcos-style spending habits in state-financed travel.

According to the Daily Caller, citing Judicial Watch: Pelosi's trip to Italy and Ukraine from July 30 to Aug. 6, 2015, cost the Air Force $184,587.81, according to documents released Saturday under a 2015 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit by Judicial Watch. Her delegation was made up of nine other members of Congress, including Democratic Reps. Anna Eshoo of California and Marcia Fudge of Ohio. Four family members, including Pelosi's husband Paul Pelosi, were on the trip.

The Congressional delegation dined at restaurants including James Beard American Restaurant in Milan, where a five-course meal cost up to $190, according to Fine Dining Lovers. The lawmakers also toured the Vatican and met up with Italian dignitaries, including President Sergio Mattarella and then-Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, according to their itinerary.

It gets worse.

According to Judicial Watch itself: Beginning in 2009, after the media failed to follow up on concerns raised about Nancy Pelosi's use of luxury Air Force jets to travel between her congressional district and DC, Judicial Watch's Freedom of Information act requests exposed her abuse of this travel perk.

Judicial Watch uncovered that Pelosi's military travel cost the United States Air Force $2,100,744.59 over one two-year period – $101,429.14 of which was for in-flight expenses, including food and alcohol. (Excerpt) Read more at americanthinker.com ...

In a country with over 320 million people, only 1/3 of them participate in elections.

That leaves over 200 million (million) people who see no reason to vote.

Trump tapped into some of that last time.

A few more percent of that would certainly be a worthy endeavor.

How does one get their attention and hold it?
