In Washington state, a freshly implemented ballot initiative and a raft of new bills may produce some of the tightest firearms regulations in the US. But standing in the way is a group of rural law enforcement officers who say point blank that they wont enforce any of it. The Klickitat county sheriff, Bob Songer, is one of them. He told the Guardian that the initiative passed last November is unconstitutional on several grounds. Ive taken the position that as an elected official, I am not going to enforce that law. Songer also cited ongoing litigation by the National Rife Association gun industry lobby and others which aims to demonstrate the laws violate both the second amendment and the states constitution. He also said that if other agencies attempted to seize weapons from county residents under the auspices of the new laws, he would consider preventively standing in their doorway.

Great!! Sheriffs are great people.
How I would love that.
And our AG - Bob I really really really hate the President Ferguson - is as nutty as Inslee.
It’s truly the highest office in the neighborhood.
Absolutely. And crowd fund directly to the LOCAL opposition fighting the action one action at a time as they pop up. If Ca had been knocked down for what they pulled years ago we would not be in the shape we are in now. We need to look at the long term cause and effect and nip it in the bud.
While we sit around and comment about how inept another states voters are for letting their rights to be taken away we forget that we are next. By then it’s too late, legal precedent has been set. While it may not be an immediate problem in our state, the precedent being set is absolutely an immediate problem for everyone everywhere.
But it’s not too late... These unconstitutional laws need to be brought up again and pushed to the top. But each would require mass financial support from the whole nation aimed at one codified target at a time. Each one ruled as unconstitutional will render all the others in other states also null and void.
Just bypass the local voters who might agree with the restrictions altogether in the best interest of the nation as a whole using their own local courts. The left come together and do this all the time and it’s why they are so successful. They pick a target and concentrate all available national resources at that one target no matter where it might be.
Must be why CT got rid of them
Where my folks live and sometimes I do, it’ll take a sheriff’s deputy about an hour to get to our place. That’s if they’re not busy elsewhere.
That because they’re elected. The bad ones are voted out pretty quickly. Police chiefs of course are unelected but at least accountable to the mayor and city government, so there are at least some checks.
But these federal law enforcement agents work for the DOJ that is theoretically accountable to the president. However, as we have painfully witnessed, these agencies are accountable to no one, that is no one elected. In effect these agencies such as FBI have become deep state Praetorian guard. They don’t care about your rights. This is why the FBI needs to be disbanded and replaced by law enforcement that is accountable to the president and faithful to the Constitution. Even Mark Levin called for FBI reform or replacement on his Friday show and he is very (some would say overly) sympathetic to law enforcement.
In many states the Governor can remove a sheriff from office for malfeasance or negligence, but only after an investigation followed by a public hearing.
A governor who attempts to remove a sheriff for not enforcing an unjust confiscation law will find himself straddling an enormous political banana peel with noisy public demonstrations thrown in. Bad optics, bad optics.
Wow! Thanks for that. I had no idea Connecticut got rid of the sheriffs for “State Marshalls”, controlled by the legislature.
100%
Lol... Same here... Sometimes they won’t even come at all. I have to tell them that I’m just going to take care of it myself then.

Yeah, like DeSantis has done with Scott Israel, but as you say, it’s been a year since the Parkland HS shooting, and I don’t think DeSantis had any real opposition other than the RAT Party bigwigs.
But instead we spend all of our time and effort thinking of snide sarcastic comments to distract away from the topic rather than seriously address the issue and try to actually solve it.
Notice that? That’s why we are losing and will continue to lose. Thank you for your important serious insight. :)
The problem: Allowing them to selectively enforce laws gives credence to those who refuse to enforce other laws, like immigration laws for example. The standard has to be the same for all, or we’ve become RATs.
You are welcome. Sadly.

Good for them. I agree.
I’m in a community so small and remote that everyone who has seen that movie “the hills have eyes” roll their windows up and lock their doors as they blow through as fast as they can... lol
City people are afraid to even stop, It’s great!
