In Washington state, a freshly implemented ballot initiative and a raft of new bills may produce some of the tightest firearms regulations in the US. But standing in the way is a group of rural law enforcement officers who say point blank that they wont enforce any of it. The Klickitat county sheriff, Bob Songer, is one of them. He told the Guardian that the initiative passed last November is unconstitutional on several grounds. Ive taken the position that as an elected official, I am not going to enforce that law. Songer also cited ongoing litigation by the National Rife Association gun industry lobby and others which aims to demonstrate the laws violate both the second amendment and the states constitution. He also said that if other agencies attempted to seize weapons from county residents under the auspices of the new laws, he would consider preventively standing in their doorway.

This payback, baby.
Colorado revolt: 55 of 62 sheriffs refuse to enforce new gun laws December 16, 2013
gee, if they'd of done that when CT or NY did that and nipped this sh1t in the bud there'd be no need to fight it now... ya gotta cut this type of thing off at the knees when it first raises it's unconstitutional head, not after it's taken root in several states
This is why you never want your state to get rid of county sheriffs. They are the top LEO of the entire county. They can kick out the feds if necessary. they have top jurisdiction in their counties, no one else does. Police have limited jurisdictions and cannot kick feds out of the county.
The west coast states have had a problem with their “left coast” for a long time. We need an Electoral College for the states.
Illegal laws will, of course, be resisted by any and all necessary means. It is excellent and highly commendable that some sheriffs, etc are good decent honest Americans supporting americans cobstitutionally- recognized rights.
The problem is that every justice on our State Supreme Court is a leftist. It is more political than our legislature. And our governor is one of the most wacked out liberals in the entire country.

You’re right. Many people don’t realize the power and importance of a sheriff. And most of them can deputize a lot of good people if need be.
Yup.
And if I am correct, Sheriff’s are all ELECTED BY THE COUNTY RESIDIENTS, unlike a lot of police jurisdictions where the city councils or mayors APPOINT them. So they have no autonomy, and more than likely, end up being gun-grabbing fags, or lesbians.

yes.
A buddy and I were discussing the state of the nation last night. I opined thank goodness the founders gave EACH state equal representation in the spinate. Then we moved on to states rights considering that our states were about all we had to protect us from feral over reach. We forgot about the counties and sheriffs.
Why do I keep thinking about the battle of Athens? Tennessee that is.
One thing to watch out for is the leftists are trying to make Sheriffs appointed rather than elected. They say that will take “politics” out of it and make for a more “professional” Sheriff’s department. Of course, the left wants sheriffs to be political hacks who will fight against the people once the left imposes socialism.
All that and the Washington AG is an absolutely despicable leftard who wants to be the next governor. All of Washington east of the Cascades needs to secede from the left coast and merge with Idaho.
Kudos to these Sheriffs.
Glad to see someone has more than half a clue on these matters.
There is the small town of Republic in northern Washington. The mayor declared it a “sanctuary city” for gun rights. He, the police and sheriff have said they won’t recognize ANY gun laws - state or federal.
He didn’t say it - but I’m guessing in private he thinks “What part of ‘shall not be infringed’ do they not understand?”

[Excerpts:]
KAVANAUGH, Circuit Judge, dissenting:...
[...]
In my judgment, both D.C.s ban on semi-automatic rifles and its gun registration requirement are unconstitutional under Heller.
In Heller, the Supreme Court held that handguns the vast majority of which today are semi-automatic are constitutionally protected because they have not traditionally been banned and are in common use by law-abiding citizens. There is no meaningful or persuasive constitutional distinction between semi-automatic handguns and semi-automatic rifles. Semi-automatic rifles, like semi-automatic handguns, have not traditionally been banned and are in common use by law-abiding citizens for self-defense in the home, hunting, and other lawful uses. Moreover, semi-automatic handguns are used in connection with violent crimes far more than semi-automatic rifles are. It followsfrom Hellers protection of semi-automatic handguns that semi-automatic rifles are also constitutionally protected and that D.C.s ban on them is unconstitutional.

In my view, Heller and McDonald leave little doubt that courts are to assess gun bans and regulations based on text, history, and tradition, not by a balancing test such as strict or intermediate scrutiny.
The anti-American people who struggle against our Second Amendment are also struggling against the NRA for a reason.
