Dems Latest Anti-Gun Bill Proves (Once Again) They Know Nothing About Firearms

Democratic Reps. Anthony Brown (MD) and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA) on Wednesday introduced H.R. 717, the Raise the Age Act, which would change the age federal firearm licensees can sell or transfer centerfire rifles. If passed, the bill would raise the age people can legally obtain a rifle from 18 to 21. The only exception would be made for those who are a active duty members of the military and those whose full-time jobs involve carrying a service weapon, like members of law enforcement.

“We have not done enough to tackle the epidemic of gun violence Americans experience on our streets, in our movie theatres, and at our schools,” Brown said in a statement. “There is bipartisan support in Congress for common-sense laws that deter would-be perpetrators of gun violence from doing harm to our communities. Currently, an 18-year-old who cannot legally purchase a handgun can legally purchase a military-style assault weapon -- that’s a dangerous, outdated loophole in America's gun laws. I am proud to work with Congressman Fitzpatrick to introduce this important first step to stem the violence we see across our country.”

“Congress owes our nation’s families and children bipartisan gun safety reform. By raising the age restrictions for military-style semi-automatic weapons, this bipartisan bill provides parity with handgun purchases,” Fitzpatrick added. “I’m proud to partner with Congressman Brown on this common-sense measure. While continuing to support Second Amendment rights, this Congress can take meaningful action to protect our children and keep our communities safe.”

Giffords, Everytown for Gun Safety and the American College of Physicians endorsed the bill.

“Every American knows too well the horror and heartbreak that can result if a young person can easily and legally access an assault rifle,” said Robin Lloyd, Managing Director at Giffords. “There is absolutely no reason these deadly weapons should be easier to buy than a handgun. For months, we’ve heard elected officials in states, in Congress, and in the White House agree with voters that our laws must be updated to better protect our children and our communities, yet federal law remains unchanged. I’m grateful to Representative Brown and all of the cosponsoring members for continuing their push to make our country safer.”

This is another one of those bills where I scratch my head and try to understand what the authors were thinking or the logic they were trying to apply, but so far, I've come up with nothing.

Why are they going specifically after centerfire rifles? Do these anti-gunners believe they're more lethal than rimfire? Are they trying to make it seem as though they understand how firearms function?

Giffords' Managing Director proved she doesn't know the difference between an "assault" rifle and a semi-automatic rifle. So, here we go again:

Semi-auto: one round fired for one trigger pull

Full auto: one trigger pull leads to an infinite amount of rounds fired (until you stop or you run out of ammo)

Assault weapon: usually a semi-auto that gets banned based on cosmetic features (type of grip, stock, etc.). You can literally have a so-called "assault weapon," change out the mag release and then it's legal. The gun still functions the same but it looks different.

The legislation says they're specifically targeting semi-automatics, but then gun control groups throw in the term "assault weapon" to make everything seem ten times scarier. It's ridiculous. And it's what anti-gunners due to push their agenda without understanding how guns truly function.

And the fact that this bill was introduced while the industry gathered at SHOT Show wasn't an accident. It was done by design to get a bill past 2A advocates.

And a new ignorant ass speaks up from the left about guns every day.

Since most guns utilized in crimes, especially murder, in this country are stolen then why don’t we make a law against stealing guns...

Well we did, hundreds of laws are on the books making stealing guns a crime. So all of those laws stopped the gun thefts, right?

Morons and gun control just go together.

” “There is absolutely no reason these deadly weapons should be easier to buy than a handgun.”

I agree, we should lower the age to buy a handgun to 18.

You are far too charitable, it is an insatiable lust for power via disarmament, not ignorance behind this bill.

I guess we need a mandatory 50-lb trigger pull requirement

So little children can’t set off that full-auto, you know.

I’m willing to entertain “resonable restrictions” on the First Amendment, especially as pertains to the MSM, and to Muslims......

They know exactly what they're doing. They know all about firearms.

What they do know best, which is their motivation, is control. Control. Take away the weapons from a group, and they've taken another inch towards the full-blown mile, where Americans won't be able to get or use firearms. Step by step, inch by inch.

You'll never hear democrats say, 'oops, I didn't know that; my bad!'. They will never admit what their true purpose is with any legislation, be in firearms or anything else. They know exactly what they're doing.

Common sense would make these graduation REQUIREMENTS, and schools should be encouraged to offer trap, skeet, and range shooting as P.E. electives.

Wow, just this one little paragraph. Count the buzzwords:

“We have not done enough to tackle the epidemic of gun violence Americans experience on our streets, in our movie theatres, and at our schools,” Brown said in a statement. “There is bipartisan support in Congress for common-sense laws that deter would-be perpetrators of gun violence from doing harm to our communities. I’m inclined to believe that rim fire ammo has been used to kill a lot of people. In fact a very nice weapon is a Keltec PMR30. The FBI supposedly conducted a raid today with assault weapons. Everyone called them AR15’s. I would bet they are full auto capable M16/M4 style weapons. A guess. I wasn’t there. I would just as soon the left stays stupid when it comes to this. I know the difference.

I’m all for it as soon as they raise the Voting Age to 21 with the exception of active Military Members between the ages of 18-20.

Fwiw, the current crop of NITWITS who are masquerading as “Progressive DIMocRATS” are too stupid to listen even to BILL CLINTON about what happens to DIMs when they go full-stream ahead for GUN CONTROL. = The DIMs LOSE.

They also are TOO CLUELESS to understand ANY facts about firearms and/or The 2nd Amendment, which as been “dissed” by the US Supreme Court several times since just before WWII.

Chances are that with Justice Kavanaugh being seated on the SCOTUS & (very likely) another CONSERVATIVE Justice being seated to replace RBG within a year, things aren’t looking good for the anti-gun MORONS crusade to trample citizens RIGHTS for at least a couple of generations.

That's only because the ant-gunners went after the handguns first, saying they were the most dangerous(Saturday Night Specials) And rifles were for farmers and hunters.

Now they're back and will close another loophole(right)

Do they really believe we're stupid?

Commie dem Rats are the worst but there’s one group even worse; gun grabbers who chip away at our rights which accomplishes nothing except making it harder on honest law abiding people.

In a perfect world they would be deported to Russia or China. Maybe even North Korea.

Ignorant article and I wish this argument would be retired. Again and again, we see the banners refer to “assault rifles”. Someone on our side smugly corrects them, and helpfully explains that an “assault rifle” is selectable into full-auto. Then we strut around acting like we won the debate by proving they are ignorant of hobbiest/enthusiast jargon.

To 90% of people the term “assault rifle”, describes what they see on the shelf at every sporting goods store. THOSE are what they want to ban, and it won’t matter a whit if we “educate” people into understanding that is not an “assault rifle”. They will respond “ok, you can call it whatever you please, and I still want THAT thing to be illegal”.

Normal citizens who are not shooters will not suddenly be on our side if we can make them understand this.

You cannot defend against something you cannot accurately characterize. Their war is against semi-autos and all guns. Proving that your semi-auto is not an “assault rifle” as defined by Hitler himself won’t slow down the attack on our rights one percent.

The jargon and hobbiest defense does us zero good. Might as well defend against the real direction of attack.
This is about like hearing Bloomberg complain about people drinking too many large Cokes, and smugly chuckling how ignorant he is, because you’ll drink Pepsi.
