amika Capone thought she was making a smart call by traveling to Mexico for bariatric surgery. Her doctor had urged her to have the procedure to reduce her out-of-control weight and blood pressure. But her husband's health insurance would not cover the $17,500 bill. After a friend got the surgery in Tijuana for $4,000, Capone decided to do the same.

The Tijuana cases highlight the growing number of Americans getting antibiotic-resistant infections overseas after traveling to get medical care abroad. Some who were not traveling for medical procedures but fell ill and went to foreign hospitals have also contracted such infections. Officials say they are anxious to prevent such pathogens from gaining a foothold in the United States because they are so difficult to treat.

I lost 131-lbs during a 23 day ICU/CCU stay for Severe/Acute Pancreatitis and AFIB in Mar-Apr 2017, being IV-fed and only having 2 cups of ice chips a day. But at least I didn’t get any superbugs.

Mexican Coca-Cola, that is until they decide to swap out the real sugar for something else (there have been rumors to that effect).

Had a friend who needed some kind of major dental work that would have cost over $20,000 in the U.S., but he went to Mexico and had it all done for $4,000, and that includes the costs of traveling and whatnot.

So, there’s zero risk of infections in US hospitals? Hmmm.

Well, you got me there. The only negative I can see is that those are jobs that could belong to Americans.

Thanks; still have much more to go thru, after 15 ERCPs (Endoscopies to get the massive pseudo-cyst off my Pancreas.
No; I did better than that.
The bill for that 23-day stay was $887,000+ for the Oncology Wing (they first thought it was Pancreatic Cancer), ICU, CCU and another $215,000+ for 11 days at PSU-Hershey Hospital ICU, two months later. Geisinger Gold and Medicare picked-up 99.5% of the costs.
Beats Geico’s 15% anyday.

Yeah, but don't go to Tijuana. Go to Algodones (just across the border from Yuma, AZ). It has a very good reputation for dental work and other procedures, whereas Tijuana...
