I agree with the analysis and likely outcome scenarios. But I don't call Trump's retaliation "mutual childishness". No, we finally have a POTUS willing to punch back. No more republicans snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. We have a fighter. I offer POTUS nothing but respect for this; he is the adult in the room.

House and Senate rules allow the President on the floor when in session. Pelosi can refuse him speaking time, but that can be overturned by majority vote.

Make the Dem House members die on Pelosi’s hill over allowing the President to speak to Congress!

I’ll wager at least 17 Dems will ditch Pelosi in such a vote.

If Pelosi is smart (calling the wall “immoral” and claiming that security concerns during a shutdown should delay the State of the Union address suggests otherwise), she would say she had the flu and have Hoyer sit in her place behind Trump. I'll bet that somebody would pressure Pelosi to call in sick on January 29. She can't say she was sick until hours before the address.
