They have trouble handling life and are trying to escape into imaginary worlds, instead of doing something positive for themselves and others.

Doing drugs is running away from life and reality.

“Doing drugs is running away from life and reality.”

Pot is actually pretty mild compared to the prescription drugs the docs hand out.

So is alcohol, television, and even sticking your face in a smart phone.

Or maybe they have problems dealing with judgmental types.

Doing drugs is running away from life and reality.

It is, but I don't have a big problem with elderly folks running. It's when they drive away that they become hazardous to others.

In some instances, that is no doubt the case, but individual facts and circumstances matter. A friend whose daughter died of an opioid overdose declined to take them for her severe arthritis and instead finds relief in a joint every evening. Her doctor told her to continue doing so as an effective and less risky therapy than the opioids he had prescribed.

Or maybe because they no longer have daily responsibilities they decided, in the privacy of their own homes, do do whatever they want to. Maybe they could afford to retire, having contributed enough to society.

Maybe at their age they have successfully handled life. Or... maybe most of all... they don't need some bluenose - trying to run everybody's life from cradle to grave - telling them everything thing they can and cannot do.

"Hey, you successful, retired geriatrics. I got a list of shit you better be doin' so's you don't travel outside the reality lane!"

Guess you’re not there yet. Or maybe you are but feel a need to judge. Getting old isn’t for sissies, and even though some don’t smoke pot, some seniors do love our PM cocktail hour. It makes old age nicer. Go ahead, tell us again to stop.
