Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) on Monday denounced GOP leaders' move to remove him from all committee assignments, calling it a "political decision that ignores the truth."
[House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthys (R-Calif.)] decision to remove me from committees is a political decision that ignores the truth," King said in a statement shortly after McCarthy told reporters that the Iowa congressman would not receive any committee assignments in the new Congress.
King was previously a member of the House Judiciary, Agriculture and Small Business committees. He had also served as chairman of a House Judiciary subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice in the last Congress.
The decision to strip him of those assignments came just days after King questioned why terms such as "white nationalist" and "white supremacist" were offensive in an interview with The New York Times.
"White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization how did that language become offensive? King asked in the interview, which was published last Thursday.
The comments generated criticism from Democratic and Republican lawmakers, with McCarthy saying over the weekend that action would be taken in response.
King said that his comments have been "completely mischaracterized."
"When I used the word THAT it was in reference ONLY to Western Civilization and NOT to any previously stated evil ideology ALL of which I have denounced," King said. "My record as a vocal advocate for Western Civilization is nearly as full as my record in defense of Freedom of Speech."
He added that he "ultimately" told McCarthy: "You have to do what you have to do and I will do what I have to do."
Two Democratic lawmakers on Monday introduced resolutions to formally censure King over his statements. House Democrats are expected to place a resolution to formally rebuke him that was introduced by Majority Whip James Clyburn (S.C.) on the floor for a vote on Tuesday.
Nope, mine is not a minority opinion on this thread.
The only thing unfair about it was Stephanopoulos corrected him, in order to hide something from the Republic.
Right on, man.
There are few things that establishment Republicans work at harder than trying to score brownie points with liberals over how opposed to "racism" they are. The best way to do this is to throw people like Rep. King, Derbyshire at NRO, and Jason Richwine at the Heritage foundation under the bus with the liberal media eagerly watching.
It may end his political career, but at least Rep. King isn't backing down or going down without a fight.
No, you’ve given false information.
It was Rep. Steve King of Iowa:
Heres what King says about Trump in the video from the link I gave you:
he needs to reassure us on his appointments to the Supreme Court meanwhile Trump had already issued a list which included Gorsuch and others similarly approved by strict conservative standards.
Rep Steve King of Iowa then goes on to say It would be good for him to sit down with some people in Congress, house and senate, and ask us for our input, and then receive that input. John McCain did that eight years ago to great effect.
You must think carefully about the timing and the context of Kings comments which were spoken in May of 2016.
King was considered to be a top voice for real conservatives, so he could potentially change peoples opinions easily.
It was right before the Republican Convention, when there was all kinds of talk by the deep state that Trump wouldnt get the nomination. The expression of doubt by King was meant to have maximum impact on stopping Trump before the nomination.
Steve King supported Ted Cruz during the primaries, so yes, he did initially oppose Trump. However, once Trump became the nominee, King supported Trump’s candidacy 100%. The problem with “never Trumpers” isn’t that they supported someone else during the primary, but that they continued to oppose Trump (and implicitly or explicitly support Hillary) in the general election. Steve King (unlike the unrelated Peter King) was never one of these.
But after Cruz lost there was no reason for King to resist the Trump nomination.
Unless he was serving the deep state.
If you were the deep state, you would want operatives amongst the “authentic conservatives” like Steve King.
So either you own them, or you manipulate them without their knowing. One of these possibilities is what happened to King, in my opinion.
TCruz still seems unaware that he holds his Senate for a second term but nearly fell flat on his face, as he did in the presidential race in 2016.
Even though I was repulsed by his behavior at the 2016 GOP convention, I'm glad Ted Cruz is in the Senate, because he's pretty much voted the right way on every bill.
Having said that, he's an absolutely terrible candidate. Texas is a solid Republican state where the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, and the state's other Senator consistently win by double digits, sometimes in the 20+ range. If Ted Cruz can barely squeak by with 2-3% of the vote against a liberal kook like O'Rourke in a conservative state like Texas, he can pretty much forget about his chances for the Presidency.
The lieutenant governor and attorney general ran no better in 2018 than did TCruz. But George P. Bush did better than the other Republicans, except for Abbott.
Seriously. They will call anyone right of Rachel Maddow a Nazi. Quit trying to appeal to these people. They hate you no matter what.
Trump finally caught on to this game, but GOPe hasn’t. You can look at my earlier posts in 2015. I was skeptical if there really was a “GOPe”, but it’s blatantly obvious now that there is.
The Republican Party is in its death throes. What did Congressman King say that was over the top? Had he been a member of the black orLatino caucus theater wouldnt have been a blurb. I now an officially a member of the White Caucus!
I 100% support your post!!!
5. Ridicule is mans most potent weapon.
That’s why the liberals and the communists HATE humor! They can’t stand it when we laugh at them and their idiotic ideologies and the morons who parrot their crap!!
Steve King has ruffled the alt left globalist feathers for years on their most precious goal of open borders and destruction of western values.
You can be certain they set him up and Paul Ryan’s butt boy puppet McCarthy was cheering them on. Trump knows now the anti citizen swamp is deep and corrupt to the core. Conservatives need to stick together or we will go down together along with our freedoms and rights like the right to defend ourselves. Racism is a ruse used by the ruling class oligarch’s and their political hacks that never gets exposed by the media.
The title of that is...
Which hardly equates to "trying to kill his nomination."
Here is the truth of the matter which you can't handle...
