Could the replacement teachers actually do a better job?
Those “retro raises” are SOP when it comes to negotiating contracts when teachers haven’t been working with one; these deals killed NJ taxpayers, and will do the same in CA. I suspect that like NJ, there is a massive demographic difference between the taxpayers over 50 paying for these things and the recipients under 18 receiving the services. Actually, it is occurring nationwide; American workers/taxpayers paying for services for non-working foreigners.

Maybe student scores will go up. If the strike goes on for awhile, let’s test and find out.

It happens in the private sector some, but not for that long. I think the longest retro pay I’ve been given was 3 months.

Solution - take pay from the low-performers and give it to the high performers....then fire anyone who doens’t think that’s fair.

510,000 of the 640,000 students are English Learners or Very Poor, in other words:
80% are Illegal Aliens or Children of Illegal Aliens.
80% of High School Graduates can NOT read, write or count at the 4th grade level, greater than a 50% dropout rate.
FIRE ALL OF THEM and DISBAND the School District.

Being that we’re talking public schools in California, the lives of the ‘students’ will GREATLY IMPROVE the longer they are out of school.
California teachers lost my support, especially regarding class size, when their union spent millions to defeat Prop. 187 on free education for illegals. At that point, and as the challenges to it continued with heavy CTA involvement, I vowed never to support union demands for smaller classes.
