Last May, T-Mobile promised to stop selling its subscribers location data after reports surfaced that it was being funneled to law enforcement officers whod otherwise need a warrant to get it. But that hasnt happened so far.
...
AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint have reportedly all agreed to do this. But at this point, who can believe them?
...
Now, almost every major teleco is being forced to reckon with their own negligence by severing all ties to these so-called location aggregators, which have paid god knows what for access to our whereabouts.

Bottom line: for a few hundred bucks, anyone has been able to buy real time tracking data of your cell phone location from the major mobile carriers, including stalkers, murderers, bounty hunters, collection agents, rogue cops, and many, many more!
Faraday Baggies are the way to go.
“Faraday Baggies are the way to go.”
indeed. i’m selling them right now no my website, though they are somewhat roll-your-own “baggies”... what you receive in the package is a 10” x 10” heavy-duty piece of aluminum foil and a set of folding instructions that any idiot can follow ...
How about they stop selling our damn phone numbers to third parties (telemarketers).
As a geolocation specialist, this article isn’t total bs, but it misses the mark in total accuracy.
Basically is not insulting, but it’s also very wrong
DAM STRAIGHT! If there was one federal law I could support it would be that one. Make all telemarketing illegal.
They want to sell something? Then send it through the mail.
My “low tech” flip phone has a feature where I can limit incoming calls to the phone numbers in the “Contacts” list.
Excellent!
U R going to have to ‘slain yourself/specific knowledge.
Frankly I’m too busy adjusting my business model because they aren’t doing for me what they are contracted to do.
But in a nutshell: the locating data that try share is very guarded. The servers used by that bounty hunter (who I’m told i actually know) was not what anyone would expect.
Interesting, but quite unclear to me.
I’m not getting any insight into your inside info/position.
I’ve been on my cellular all day. Autocorrect bs and FR goes wonky when my text exceeds the textbox size. I’ll try to remember to pick this up tomorrow.
I may not have answers, but i have insight. Freepmail me maybe?
So they will just be giving it away?
Desktops still rule...
We have Ooma and they have a feature where you can put in only the phone numbers you want ringing your number. All the rest get a message to leave a number and the phone doesn’t ring unless they are listed in our directory. Pssst. Telemarketers don’t like leaving messages.
Everyone kept arguing with me about carriers doing this. Here we go... You cannot trust these greedy carriers one bit.
Ummm...turn off location unless you need it?
I carry my phone in a lead lined case. The effer won’t ping location until I take it out to use it.
I keep getting roaming sales messages because they cannot track me hour to hour. I just pop up on their net at my choice.
So the solution is simple.
