Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will miss next week’s court sessions and work from home, but her recovery from early-stage lung cancer surgery remains "on track" and no further treatment is needed, the court announced Friday.

“Justice Ginsburg will continue to work from home next week and will participate in the consideration and decision of the cases on the basis of the briefs and the transcripts of oral arguments. Her recovery from surgery is on track,” Supreme Court public information officer Kathy Arberg said in a statement. “Post-surgery evaluation indicates no evidence of remaining disease, and no further treatment is required,” she said.

Ruthy went off the sanity track a long time ago. Time she takes the choochoo to the old age home for mentally impaired Liberals. There are a lot of Napoleons there who want her legal advise on how to conquer the world.

“Does anyone here believe her cancer is early-stage?”

The doctor at Liz’s link makes some deductions:

- If the two tumors removed from her lungs were lung cancer, her prognosis would be good - so they would probably have said so.

- It is unlikely for a lung cancer to have originated in two separate tumors.

So her cancer is likely the stage IV spread of another cancer - likely the deadly pancreatic variety.

Pancreatic cancer, which she has been diagnosed with before, is one of the more lethal varieties - 5% survival rate after five years (20% if caught early, as they say her’s was). She was operated on for pancreatic cancer 10 years ago.

If Ginsburg is reviewing transcripts and participating in voting, America MUST know with certainty that it is SHE who is casting a vote and not an unapproved assistant. It is imperative that if Ginsburg votes outside the presence of her colleagues, it must be done live via Skype or other live streaming service.

..........”on track”........for what?

It’s amazing she’s survived all these dire medical episodes.

Must have a good doctor.

The wild card here is Clarence Thomas - which is why we need the RBG seat and one more to protect the next generation.

Thomas needs to step down before the end of the year, so Trump can get his replacement confirmed. I'm hoping Trump is making a deal with him, wherein Thomas can name who he wants to replace him.

They definitely don’t have to tell the public details (HIPA actually restricts that), but I don’t know if there is any specific punishment for being misleading at the patient’s request.

Professionally, I expect that few doctors would be comfortable outright lying, but almost all would be sensitive/discreet about violating patient privacy.

I believe they just mean her recovery from surgery is progressing as expected - which is still a dire injury nonetheless.

Her general vigor and fitness are bound to decline sharply at her age, even as her surgical wounds heal shut - with limited movement, sharply restricted breathing, and likely opiate painkillers.

Notice they never mention her advanced age........Ruthie's all sweetness and light.....in a frail, emaciated, 85 year old body.

as you insightfully suggest, ...... she's bound to decline sharply, even as her surgical wounds heal - having limited movement,
sharply restricted post-op breathing, and likely ingestion of powerful opiate painkillers....and the negative consequences of all of that....

Good thing she doesn't have Obama care they would have had her in hospice and she'd be dead already.

Right. The disparities in this country becomes more apparent everyday.

Not at her age, or with her prior history of smoking for many years. No. Don’t believe it. Adhesions at a minimum on the lung wall, probably inoperable. Next step ameliorative care, ie. pain management.

They better not be having the clerks write her opinions— this is a major issue.

Recurrence of pancreatic cancer— which can be spread through lymph system... yes. The prognosis in that instance, dating back several months prior to this announcement— she could be close to being “on track” to pass away. Pancreatic cancer is very fast, even while “treatable”.

They removed a lobe.

Besides the cancer medical procedures at 85 often result in death from complications such as pneumonia.

She had early-stage colon and pancreatic cancers removed in 1999 and 2009, respectively.

I’ve thought all along that she probably won’t last through January, but, she’s a tough old bird, and may improve, if the cancer’s not metastasized or an aggressive type. Most people stay off work for 2-3 weeks after major surgery, if their work is a desk job. Only she and her confidants know what her true condition and prognosis is, and they’re not telling. But they can’t prolong this “working from home” stuff, much longer.

Pneumonia a real issue— correct. Even with strenuous hands on rehab people/ respiratory therapy people to push the patient to frequently use a incentive spirometer to keep the lung inflated and prevent what is called atalectasis (the alveoli accumulating mucus, and getting infected from airborne bacteria— hence... pneumonia). She’s missing a lobe— at her age.. yep, distinct possibility.

A CA 19-9 blood test may be used to:

- Monitor pancreatic cancer and cancer treatment. CA 19-9 levels often go up as cancer spreads, and go down as tumors shrink.

- See if cancer has returned after treatment.

Recurrence may have been detected months ago through blood monitoring, and tumors may have started sprouting in the lung. If so, they might also develop rapidly elsewhere, especially if there is no treatment. Maybe somewhere inoperable, like bones or brain.
