President Donald Trump walked out of discussions to end a partial government shutdown, now in its third week, calling discussions with congressional Democrats "a total waste of time."

"Just left a meeting with Chuck and Nancy, a total waste of time. I asked what is going to happen in 30 days if I quickly open things up, are you going to approve Border Security which includes a Wall or Steel Barrier? Nancy said, NO. I said bye-bye, nothing else works!" Trump said.

"So it looks like, like Reagan, Trump is willing to take a promise from the democrats after handing over the goods."

You have to look at the audience Trump is trying to reach. He's not trying to reach us, he's got us. He's trying to show the Americans who don't pay a whole lot of attention on politics that he's trying to be reasonable and negotiate and the other side is inflexible. Remember, the Dems came to power in the house, now they have to show they can govern. The first issue out the door and they are showing they cannot govern and can just oppose Trump.

2018 midterms typically do just as they did for a first term president ... a loss in and of one or both branches of congress. He lost the house and gained in the senate. He is winning because he has remained as faithful as he can despite hostility from the establishment and the media. He’s implemented great policies and done his best to fight important fights. Especially the one he’s battling now.

I seem to remember Reagan firing a bundle of air controllers. Reagan was a bull, Trump is an apex Tiger.

I’d have a bit of a different take on 2018.

The turn out numbers were way beyond historic levels...meaning, the Dems found a ton of votes which typically are not there for a “mere” midterm.

(The point being, it’s not just about the results, it’s also about the raw data....so many democratic votes against Trump, and when the economy was strong).

I find the 2018 votes rather alarming. And I do believe that there was significant fraud, as well. I think the dems are sitting very strong for 2020.

I do hope I am wrong.

I’m not trying to piss people off. I am just a bit worried right now....

That’s a different issue than trump winning and I agree. But even in the face of such concerns he still gained in the senate. I will call that winning.
