Technically, is this legal? There is always the “Lead us not unto temptation” clause. Even formal police stings are quite cautious nowadays.

I don’t know if it’s legal. Entrapment is trying to lure an otherwise law abiding citizen into committing a crime which would not have occurred without the actions of the police agent-provocateur. In this instance, the target was not lured into a crime.

Queer baiting is an old fashioned name for the “sport” of coming on to a homosexual man, and then having a group of confederates waiting at the proposed trysting place to beat the snot out of him. Clearly a crime.
