The state commission investigating the Parkland school shooting unanimously approved a tough final report Wednesday that puts the responsibility for reform on school districts, law enforcement agencies, Gov.-elect Ron DeSantis and state legislative leaders.
The 458-page report by the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission addresses the cascade of errors revealed in the wake of the shooting, including fumbled tips, lax school security policies and unaggressive Broward sheriffs deputies who hung back as shots were fired. The report now goes to Gov. Rick Scott, DeSantis, Senate President Bill Galvano and House Speaker José Oliva.
The report contains dozens of recommendations. Some would require action by the governor and Legislature, such as the proposals to allow some teachers to carry guns and increase spending on school security. It also calls for laws to be changed to allow school districts to raise taxes for security improvements and to require rather than simply permit mental health providers to notify law enforcement if a patient threatens anyone with harm. Many of the proposals were inspired by errors and weak spots that came to light after the Feb. 14 massacre of 17 people.

Guess that didn’t go as planned.
If I had to pick between teachers and other school staff (administrative and janitors), I’d certainly pick the later category.
I would not as a group. I know exactly the type of person who went into teaching. As a group I dont wznt them armed.
Now any of them that were smart and ambitious enough to get a ccw all on their own, yeah, let them carry.
Always with the spending and rules.
I’m with you. Most teachers are flaming leftards. If they dont want to be armed, then get shot. Bodies make good shields, especially lib ones.
I’d pick those from either category who are Honorably Discharged service members.
How about hanging the police/sheriff force?...since it was their lackey who did the shooting, all programmed and staged with real deaths...not much h different between this and what Clinton did in Libya...hang them all.
Their lackey did the shooting?
I would narrow that to just janitors.
Their lackey did the shooting?
...
Yep, I stand by it. Read up. No word about the guy since then, not much about his past...programmed used weak mind...CIA-CONTROLLED run by Clintons/Obama/Brennan...
Really, 6 or so in each building would be sufficient. Surely they can find 6 mentally competent employees - even if they have to hire them anew.
I’m just an outsider, but it seems like if you are paying some ‘cop’ $130k a year in salary, and he doesn’t seem enthusiastic on taking on punk kids like this...then maybe cops aren’t the real solution.
If you just want to use the money and get ‘protection’...maybe they ought to turn to the mafia, and pay for ‘protection’. Bring in a Paulie or Furio from the Sopranos characters, and just let the kids know that if you misbehave with them...you get roughed up.
As a former teacher, I can say for certain that after dark, leaving the school to walk to the parking lot I have at times wished I was packing.
In CA I could not get a ccw because of the requirement to have a reason. As a teacher, if I was willing to take the training I would think that being in a school would be reason enough.
Come to think of it, what is the reason for needing a reason anyway?
The reason is to prevent you from having a firearm because your reason is not good enough.
Government officials generally do not want ordinary citizens to have weapons. Weapons are potent symbols of potential refusal to obey the orders of the rulers.
They cannot have that.
Whacky, gun hating, liberal, teachers won’t volunteer to carry guns. This way all the conservative leaning teachers will be armed and the liberals won’t be.
Arm the janitors? WHAT? NO! Administrators? The front office might be safe.
Arm teachers “IN THE CLASSROOMS”. In other words, armed adults WITH the students they are to protect.
Let’s see..., Is your child safer with an armed teacher, right there in the classroom with them OR with an armed policeman outside the school?
Hmmmmmmmmmmm, tough one. Not sure ...., /sarc!
