This is the first time I'll be out for NYE in more years than I can remember and the only reason I'm going is because I won't have to drive anywhere after 4pm which is when we're checking in.
Happy New Years, Mears! May yours be happy, healthy and prosperous.
Enclosed malls seem to be a thing of the past.
We have had two non enclosed shopping areas, including cinemas, open up in the past 8 years and they are doing very well.

> All kidding aside what can be done long term with these feral children/adults? <
Bring good industrial jobs back to the big cities. Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.
This is not a perfect solution. And it is not meant to excuse criminal behavior. But it would be a good first step.
Sounds like a GREAT time-—safe,fun,and no driving.
Happy New Year to you too.

The mall near me closed in part for that very reason.
It’s nice to live in an area where it really can’t happen.
“Second City Cop is a good choice for reading about goings on in Chicago.”
Is it ever! I check it daily. The cops are in the pits the way things are going.
That’s funny, Sharpstown Mall was probably that last mall I stepped into as well.
Im Asian. I would like to say to American whites: you got good deal on that cotton picking business, didnt you?
I think their lease is running out.
The new tenants..no Ingles.
NEVER.
LEAVE.
HOME.
UNARMED!
The citizens will not stand for this!
They will elect a new mayor who is a corrupt dem alderman. Yeah, that’ll do it.
Good to see that gun ban is taking a bite out of crime.
Weren’t they just celebrating the Bears win/bye?
Hawthorne Mall in LA area was closed because of this element.
Used to live in Chicago back in another lifetime (70’s), worked all around the city. The Loop and Michigan Ave all the way up to Evanston were relatively safe. Actually Dearborn, Clark, and LaSalle Street where I went to school were OK. I remember Hef’s mansion near Rush street. All of west Chicago was a wasteland of wide boulevards lined with closed factories and deteriorating neighborhoods.
Went back years later to do a TV show during a publicity tour for one of my books. The studio was located just west of the Loop, across the Chicago river. I remembered the area as a blighted hangout for homeless people and rescue missions, with gangs roaming around to beat up the drunk bums for the SS checks.
The TV studio offered to let me park in their gated parking lot, but I figured what the heck I’ll just park on the street. Found a spot and got out of my car.
Then I saw it: down at the corner several men with baseball bats and whatever else spotted me, and immediately headed in my direction. I jumped back in my car and got out of there. A phone call opened the gate to the studio. Learned that day that the Windy City is as dangerous as ever.
I guess the trick is to do one’s shopping in the morning, while the little animals are still sleeping off last night’s high.

Mosquitoes and other forms of noxious pests are most active in the evening.
Shoot them

Can you imagine the global wailing that would ensue if one of these little darlings suffered so much as a scratch?
