Cheney shot a lawyer in the face with a shotgun. How can you not like a guy like that?

Post of the morning!!!

Its a hit piece. This review is trying to get the naive to go watch it.

Well, the writer is someone who also wrote for the Weekly Standard, so...

Christian Bale nails it as Dick Cheney in ‘Vice,’ but the rest of the movie is an absurd mess

0ne and one half stars

Structurally, “Vice” is a mess, zigging here and zagging there, never knowing quite when to end, and when it finally does, leaving few penetrating or genuinely illuminating ideas to ponder. (That said, a memorable end credits sequence turns out to be one of the film’s finest moments.) As a Wiki-wacky burlesque, “Vice” never achieves the Shakespearean comprehension or catharsis to which it clearly aspires, just snarky self-amusement. The cipher-like eminence at the story’s center remains stubbornly in the grays. There’s so very much of this movie. Is that really all there is?

I saw this

Yes it was obviously biased which of course I fully expected. Biased against the war (which in hindsight many conservatives are no longer fans of including me), casting the main players in a bad light vis-a-vis the war. And some heavy-handed symbolism, Cheney even has a House of Cards style soliloquy at the end.

The worst thing was the misinterpretation of the Unitary Executive Theory which they said meant “If the President does it’s legal” which is not even in the correct ballpark. And they claim conservatives changed “global warming” to “climate change” cause the former “sounds scary
, when the opposite is true, liberals changed it and we conservatives still say global warming.

I still have to give it a good review. By no means was it a straight “hit piece”, it portrayed him as a human being. I actually came away with a higher opinion of Cheney after seeing it, it actually did seem like a “superhero origin story” and Lynne was a hell of a Lois Lane. My a-political brother also came away with respect for Cheney. It wasn’t broadly anti-Republican or pro-democrat (in fact it doesn’t really portray the democrats at all, nothing about the Jim Jeffords switch). I rolled my eyes a couple times but at no point was I contemplating walking out. As long as you aren’t really sensitive no part of it will be worse than a mild annoyance. My only real issue was I could hardly wait to tell my brother what the unitary executive theory really was, clearly the screenwriters have no understanding of it and didn’t even read wikipedia.

Bale...I forgot he wasn’t really Cheney. Oscar, nomination at least. I read about the massive weight flucuations he goes though for film roles, fat to rail think to heavily muscled. I usually don’t like method acting but he’s a master. Carrell as Rummy was interesting and Bush wasn’t in it much but Rockwell, I liked the impersonation. Some interesting comedic elements in the film.

And Liz Cheney was played by the delicious Lily Rabe.

The shotgun thing was barely addressed, they portrayed him shooting the guy while seated in a car which I don’t think is how it went down.

No Clymer.

After how the shooting was hardly addressed I was convinced they only put it in there for the trailer.

It was strange, they transition from a meeting to the hunting scene, Cheney shoots the guy, unless I missed something there was no context to it, the woman from the trailer says “Jesus Dick!”. They (the voice-over narrator) allege “Cheney never apologized” then showed real footage of the victim apologizing to the Cheney family because they got raked over the coals. That was it, less than 2 minutes I’d say.

The dude was actually pretty badly hurt, they left a bunch of pellets in him and he had a heart attack cause of the lead poisoning. But he seems to bare Cheney no animosity.

Bale is probably the greatest American living actor. If you saw him in the boxing movie-—it took me 15 minutes to figure out that was him.

Empire of the Sun by Steven Spielberg is one of his best.

Thank you for the detailed analysis, Impy.

Been debating seeing either this or “The Mule”.

I’e heard from two of my producer buddies that “The Mule” is good, not great. One liked it, but said the second half was much better than the first. The other guy didn’t like it nearly as much, and said it felt “like a TV movie.”

I tried to see “Aquaman,” but both showings in my time range were sold out. My wife & brother-in-law saw “Bohemian Rhapsody” and said it was awesome.

However, that guy who plays Cheney is unbelievably good. He should get an Oscar.

Got one already! But thanks for your power of perception.

Yes, I’ve read mixed reviews for “The Mule”. But Clint’s 88...this might be it for him as far as acting goes.

“Aquaman”: Interesting.

“Bohemian Rhapsody”: Not a Queen fan...but I’ll probably catch it at some point.

There is a fantastic Jeff Beck doc on Showtime called “Jeff Back: Still on the Run.” Unlike most docs about musicians, it actually shows more of him playing and less of yahoos talking.

This guy is incredible. I didn’t know Stevie Wonder wrote “Superstition” for him!?

He said Beck, Bogert, and Appice broke up because they just didn’t have any songs after Superstition.

Also, he is a leader in having female bassists and guitarists in his group. Tal Wikenfeld is amazing.

"The shotgun thing was barely addressed, they portrayed him shooting the guy while seated in a car which I don’t think is how it went down."

I'm pretty sure it was a typical "bird hunting" situation, where Cheney was tracking a bird with with (28 gauge) shotgun and swung too wide and shot his buddy.

Cheney's fault, obviously. Happens all too often with bird hunters.
