Martha McSally to fill John McCain's Arizona seat
Washington Examiner ^ | 12/18/18

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey on Tuesday appointed Rep. Martha McSally to fill the Senate vacancy originally created with the death of Republican Sen. John McCain.

Sen. Jon Kyl, a Republican, was appointed to succeed McCain on an interim basis. McSally, a Republican who lost a bid for Senate in November, received the appointment to McCain's seat on a permanent basis, to take effect after Kyl departs the Senate on Dec. 31. McSally will immediately have to stand for election in a 2020 special election to determine who serves out the final two years of the six-year term McCain won in 2016, meaning she would almost immediately mount a campaign after taking office in 2019. If successful, she'll have to turn around and run for re-election in 2022.

“Martha [McSally] is uniquely qualified to step up and fight for Arizona’s interests in the U.S. Senate,” Ducey, a Republican, said in a statement published by the Arizona Capitol Times. “I thank her for taking on this significant responsibility and look forward to working with her and Senator-Elect Sinema to get positive things done.”

McCain's widow. who met with McSally Friday, Tuesday tweeted her approval of the choice.

i’m with you. We’ll see if she’s pro-life, or even a Conservative.

The left didn’t get Cindy McCain but its going to end the same.
I expect them to run Cindy as a Dem in 2020 and she will win.
Exactly what was always in the plan since 2000.

McSally couldn’t fight her way out of a paper bag.

Republican doesn't mean conservative, she's a moderate at best. She's a so-called moderate never-Trumper who reluctantly - ever so reluctantly - embraced him just prior to the election when she felt she had to, then trashed him after she lost. My guess: Arizona tossed Jeff Flake so they could get a crazy communist with Sinema and Jeff Flake in heels with McSally. But we'll see.

"The McCain's approval is the first indication that this was not a good choice. "

This was the story the other day:

John McCain's family turns on Martha McSally

Hope she gets it. The GOP needs conservative leadership at that level, to steer the primaries toward nominating conservatives for national elections.

I'm for giving McSally a fair chance.

I'll bet my allowance (okay, I don't get one) that she emerges as a border wall warrior and impresses the Arizonan Conservatives and even indies and Dems who feel threatened by the invasion of illegal alien criminals.

Yes, I know that she has been on both sides of this fence (intentional pun) at one time or another, my hope is that she currently resides on our side, and permanently so.

“McCain’s widow. who met with McSally Friday, Tuesday tweeted her approval of the choice.”

The McCain seat?
The Kennedy seat?
The Clinton seat?
The Thurgood Marshall seat?

What the hell is going on in America?
We now have hereditary royal families. What ever happened to “We, the PEOPLE”?

If she is going to run she needs a serious makeover, speaking lessons and charm school

“...who may have made mistakes..” I think maybe you’ve given away your political leanings. Does your compassion apply to anyone at all who “may have made mistakes.” And, of course, how do you define “mistakes”?

In the case of Ducey, Cindy is very, very rich. That’s why.

That is so true-apparently Cindy McCain actually thought she would inherit the senate seat-she was blabbing to the media about how she’d be deciding whether she would “ask” to be appointed in the next few weeks-like it was hers by divine right. I’ll bet she’s pissed that the Gov shot down her sense of entitlement...

Arizon is a Banana Republic. Since when did the McCains get to decide anything...they get one vote like the rest of us.

Because the McCain machine is a very powerful presence in Arizona,

Because of the family beer monopoly on the Phoenix area. How many votes was that worth?

"At least glad that Cindy or Meghan didn’t get the seat ... and at a minimum McSally at least is pro-life."

**After McCain and Flake I no longer believe a word any Senator from Arizona says when they are campaigning. We'll see if she's pro-life.**

I had hoped he would appoint Dr. Wendy Ward instead of a Romney clone. This does nothing to further MAGA.

I wonder what happened in the last couple of days ? Story only indicates Meghan & Husband’s dislike, while McSally apologizes to Cindy

Dr. Ward would have been better IMO. The governors deputy was reported to be in line but seemed to just be a placeholder for the gov himself to take seat later. As my dear Mom used to say “what is done is done.” Let’s hope McSally remembers Trumps support and most of the time votes that way. Not hopeful given amnesia in DC but ...

I wonder how many who never donated a dime to her campaign blame her campaign and ignore the Dem malfeasance...probably equates to the percentage of FReepers who claim conservatism, bitch about welfare leeches and still don’t donate here....
