Chinese hackers 'steal missile plans' from US Navy contractors
Telegraph ^ | 12/14/18 | James Cook

Classified military information including missile plans have been stolen from contractors working for the US Navy by hackers linked to China, according to reports.

Contractors working for the US Navy have reportedly suffered a series of breaches in the past 18 months.

Richard Spencer, the secretary of the US Navy, has ordered a review of cybersecurity threats, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

The review follows reports of the theft of classified plans for a supersonic anti-ship missile to be used by submarines. The plans for the missile were found to have been stolen in June during a hacking attack against a contractor for the US Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Rhode Island.

From the article...

“In January and February, hackers stole 64 gigabytes of sensitive data stored on the unnamed defence contractor’s unclassified computer network.”

If the data was unclassified, it’s not a big deal, but still harmful.

If the data WAS classified, several people should go to prison for no less than 20 years.

Safeguarding mil tech secrets does not make financial sense for weapons makers:

When it gets ripped off they can scream, “The scheming Chinese are riiiiight behind us and we need to stay AHEAD..!”

And they get more money to that end. If perpetually we were miles out in front there probably wouldn’t be the $upport for new megabuck systems.

You and me? We DO care about our military guys. We DO get choked up singing the national anthem.

The tippy top of the arms world..? I’m not so sure and I think we might be getting played.

Why do they hire Chinese engineers to make sensitive US weapons? It’s like they WANT our stuff stolen.

IT’S LIKE THEY *WANT* IT STOLEN.

By now, I would hope we’re actually feeding the Chinese technically flawed info.

They were probably going to Verify the Plans given to them by the demonratcommiescumbag politicians.

We need to hire/Enlist some 5+ year old PATRIOTS so hardcore they would have given The Founders a run for Their money and turn them loose as Our New IT Department.

Something like when they catch a breach an Instant Assessment of Hardware on the scumbags side. In a few seconds one of Our Kids yells out “GOT IT !!!” then 2 keystrokes sends a Well, bye Simpathy Card from Curly Bill. Scumbags don’t have time to finish reading the Card on monitors when the 3D Printer spits out a full functional Minigun already belted up and does a 360 cutting anything in the room at least in half.

The Minigun melts down as the last Round fires.

After Hillary!™?, or is unequal protection under the law now codified?

The article is inconsistent. It says classified plans, then later says unclassified network. By definition, classified information is not present on unclassified networks. And “plans” is far too general. That could mean technical drawings, specifications and the like. Or it could be plans as in schedules for meetings, design reviews etc - fairly harmless stuff. The article is basically useless in getting a feel for the seriousness of the breach.

Contractors should be imprisoned for having any plans for new weapons connected by radio (of any kind), cables or any other means (including humans) to any network that leaves their buildings. They should have stand-alone, completely un-networked computers only, with no removable media or wireless ports of any kind.

Is this not espionage of the highest order punishable by death?

I personally do not believe you know anything about what you are saying. I will withdraw this criticism if you can substantiate your suspicions.

And for the record, some one may get money to develop a counter to technology stolen by a foreign agent, but it will not be the company who lost the material. They will be slapped with a security violation and probably not allowed to bid again for any program with the same agency for 6 months to a year or more.

And yes, we in the industry do understand we are making equipment for our troops and our country’s defense. If people responsible for safeguarding material make mistakes, kit is made in error. Not for the purpose of ensuring additional work.

If we aggressively hunted down and executed those responsible it would stop.

Nothing will happen.

I hope those red bastards spend hundreds of millions of dollars building a missile that has a deliberate fatal flaw built into the plans for making it.

Hey Xi, you want an eggroll with that missile that just exploded?

This started long before Otoken arrived (though he certainly didn’t help); our universities have been importing and training Red Chinese students for decades just to keep the doors open. For every affirmative action token getting a free ride in college, there is a ChiCom agent paying double tuition (or more) as an out-of-state student.
