I've heard that there is ice on the moon.

“Water vapor is the main greenhouse gas, and greatly reduces the daily temperature range on the earth,”
According to Joe Bastardi water vapor’s impact upon atmospheric temperature is the exact opposite.
That's true. But the incoming shortwave energy is not blocked by greenhouse gases. The earth's surface has to remove a ton of heat from the sun. The heat removal is slowed by greenhouse gases. More greenhouse gas means less heat removal so the surface temperature rises.
Water vapor is the main greenhouse gas, and greatly reduces the daily temperature range on the earth
That's true, but water vapor varies depending on prevailng weather which is the main modulator of climate.
while the sun is the main driver of long-term temperature change
If that were the whole story we would see large swings in the 11/22 year cycles, but we don't. The main effect of the sun is to modulate the weather which can warm or cool or have no net global effect. The main modulator of weather is geography which for our timescales is fixed. Our current geography leads to our permanent ice age with short interglacials like the one we are in. It also leads to CO2 starvation, mainly from the weathering of rocks on the Himalayas and other relatively new mountain ranges.
It is that complete understanding of climate that leads to the conclusion that CO2 is good, warming is good, etc.
I can confirm that CO2 is a great cooling gas. When we were floating off the coast of the RVN looking for targets and the outside temp was 115 and the old AC wasn’t chugging along so good, you could grab a can of bathwater hot Coke and shoot it for five seconds with a CO2 fire extinguisher and that sucker would be chilled to the max.
Most “anti-greenhouse effect” articles or sites are from the 2000’s when that was a big fad. It’s a distinctly minority view in science, although cannot be dismissed just like any science cannot be disproven. The issue really boils down to amounts, not the presence or absense of the effect.
Any gas, whether greenhouse gas or not, will cool when allowed to expand from high pressure to low pressure.
Carbon dioxide does not boil, at least not under conditions common on earth. It changes from solid directly to gas form, a process known as sublimination.
Watch what happens to a piece of dry ice on a tabletop and you’ll see that this poster is indeed very correct.
It’s very simple. Because CO2 is denser than air it transfers heat more readily. IOW, when the sun isn’t shining CO2 radiates heat out of the atmosphere better than air.
Can’t wait for them to take a stand against the Greenhouse Effect. That’s the biggest fraud and the basis of the entire AGW scam.
“NASAs Langley Research Center has collated data proving that greenhouse gases actually block up to 95 percent of harmful solar rays from reaching our planet, thus reducing the heating impact of the sun. Carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitric oxide (NO) are two substances playing a key role in the energy balance of air above our planets surface tending to cool not heat.”
If I understand this correctly, CO2 is a cooling gas and the left wants us to remove CO2 emissions because they believe that is what is warming the planet. Therefore am I to assume that by listening to the left’s bleating on global warming, as we find ways to remove CO2 emissions, the planet will get hotter not cooler?
Shouldn’t this be filed under another episode of “unintended consequences?”
OK!! Everybody pay attention!
Lesson for today:
1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.
2. The sun is a giant nuclear furnace that controls the climates of all its planets.
3. The earth is one of the suns planets.
4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.
5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.
Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?
Density adds to the greenhouse effect. If we didn't have N2 and O2 in our atmosphere the CO2 would be ineffective. The reason CO2 works as a greenhouse gas is that the heat captured by CO2 is immediately transferred to the rest of the atmosphere.
when the sun isnt shining CO2 radiates heat out of the atmosphere better than air.
Yes it radiates heat. It also captures heat. In fact the amount it captures and the amount it radiates are identical (Kirchoff's Law or something like that). The radiation is in all directions, out to space, and back to earth. At night there is no incoming heat from the sun to be captured by CO2, only outgoing heat from earth.
That's not correct. Our added CO2 has made the planet warmer, fortunately. If it had done the opposite we would be back into a glacial period.
Rollin’ the dice every day to come up with a new conclusion. Science based on algorithms and models is not science. It never has been and never will be until there is no human nature in the process where bias can be hidden in the code.
Gotta be careful with articles like this:
Global warming theory predicts a cooling stratosphere. Which is happening.
Problem is global warming theory also predicts a tropopause “hotspot” which is NOT happening.
:-)
We have all heard it that CO2 emissions are causing global warming and the sea will rise 20+ feet. The earth is doomed even if there has been climate changes numinous climate changes time during the history of the earth. Maybe Gore should look at what the roll of CO2 in the atmosphere is before he tries to eliminate it. The sun is the major driver of the earth climate system not Al Gore and CO2. As we reduce CO2 there will be an increase of solar rays the reaching the earth and less plant growth. Read the article to see how things that make up our atmosphere are all interdependent on each other
Perhaps, then, you'll view my critique of your #17 in the same manner:
"The claim NASA said CO2 is a cooling gas, was from a 2012 article about CO2 and nitric acid in the upper atmosphere,"
~~~~~~~~~~
The chemical species discussed in the article were carbon dioxide (CO2 and nitric oxide (NO).
I saw no reference to "nitric acid" (HNO3).
