Investigation closed.

Google, name ONE on executive staff or heading any major division.
There are none.

“Pichai also said privacy and security are essential parts of Google’s mission...”

The Chicoms are very happy with the version of Google’s “privacy and security” Google designed for them.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has been very outspoken about President Donald Trump’s recent immigration executive order, having just a few days sent a memo to Google employees saying that “it’s painful to see the personal cost of this executive order on our colleagues.” Now he has come out (via an interview with Walt Mossberg at The Verge) to speak more broadly — albeit briefly — about immigration in Silicon Valley…

Mossberg says that he sent an email asking Pichai about “American immigration more broadly,” and this was part of his reply:

“In Silicon Valley, being an immigrant doesn’t matter,” he said. “It’s the ideas that matter. We are able to build products for everyone because we attract talent from around the world. Immigration is a strength for this industry and our country — it’s one of our defining characteristics.”

Liars. All of Big Tech openly influenced the election in favor of the Democrats two years ago.

Apple, Twitter, Google, Instagram collude to defeat Trump

Some of that ranking is SEO and keyword manipulation. Manipulating the algorithm is a fine craft taught by many marketing courses.

Someone needs to start tweaking the truthful global climate articles/sites so they hit the sweet spot in keywords. Then start a “please click; it’s just the same as a “like’ or a ‘share’” campaign. This could be done via personal email campaigns. A concerted campaign, like a low-key, distributed email list blast, would also show up in traffic stats.

Not sure that would override the algo, but it might be a way to bypass goog/FB/twatter.

I hear ya. Unfortunately, the vast, huge majority of people out there who blindly use Google either are unaware, don’t care, or actively support Google in their shaping of information.

Some of it is money related, some of it is ideological, I can’t say how much of each though.

It is mostly habit, IMO. We say “google” when we mean search.

I do use google for translation and measurement comparisons. They are excellent for that. Otherwise, I use Start Page, which is google w/o the tracking, and have for years. I say “Run a search” in conversation. Few people pick up on the difference.

I pass on interesting and important news items to my personal list and they, in turn pass it to theirs. I suspect a lot ends up on FB where it languishes in their news feed ghetto.

When I search information, I actually often end up several screens in before I find what I want. SEO has its limits, especially when there appears to be a race between marketers figuring ways around the algo and engineers tweaking the algo to obviate the tweaks.

I do what I can and so do others. I admit to hating email list blasts and have consigned most to Spam. I do check thru my spam folder every few days, just to see if I missed anything important, but, actually, most email list blasts are fundraisers.

This intellectual laziness is a hallmark of our current era’s culture. Even without some ELE, it isn’t going to end well.

I read where some startup type companies are doing everything in the cloud and don’t even keep any hard copy because that’s the “old way” of doing things...

I could only shake my head. When the Internet goes down...and it will...a lot of people are going to freeze in place...including those startups!

Yep.

My Kindle library is up there. My device can’t handle the load of data.

Everything else is on external hard drives/thumb drives. It’s my data and I want it to stay that way.
