OSLO (AFP) - Yazidi activist Nadia Murad, a survivor of sex slavery by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), implored the global community to help free hundreds of women and girls still held by the militants in her Nobel acceptance speech on Monday (Dec 10), saying the world must protect her people.
"The protection of the Yazidis and all vulnerable communities around the world is the responsibility of the international community," Ms Murad told the ceremony in Oslo.
The 25-year-old shares the Nobel Peace Prize with Congolese doctor Denis Mukwege, who has spent more than two decades treating appalling injuries inflicted on women in the Democratic Republic of Congo's war-torn east.
Nobel committee chairman Berit Reiss-Andersen said the pair were "two of the strongest voices in the world today".
"The fight for justice unites them, despite their very different backgrounds," she said on Monday.
Ms Murad wept during Ms Reiss-Andersen's description of the suffering of her people.
She survived the horrors of captivity under the ISIS where they targeted Ms Murad's Kurdish-speaking community.
The fate of some 3,000 women and girls is still unknown.
"Young girls at the prime of life are sold, bought, held captive and raped every day. It is inconceivable that the conscience of the leaders of 195 countries around the world is not mobilised to liberate these girls," she said.

Obama was given a Nobel Award for nothing but apologizing to the world for what the USA is.
This woman survived horrible treatment by ISIS Terrorists. She is still working to call world attention to this genocide and enslavement.
US military forces, the Anti-ISIS coalition and our SDF allies are still assaulting the final stronghold of ISIS in Eastern Syria. The remaining forces are the hard core ISIS who escaped from prior battles. Many of our SDF allies have died in this final assault. When it is over, there will still be ISIS left in other places.
It’s totally forgotten how IS was running rampant under Obama but quickly subdued as soon as Trump came in.
Could somebody explain to me why this albeit noble cause is the particular responsibility of the United States?
....did she mention - In Muslim Countries?
Obama aligned the US with Sunni Arab Jihadi’s to overthrow Assad. He probably told Turkey they could have it all.
When President Trump took office he cut the Jihadi’s loose and partnered with the YPG/YPJ Kurds in Syria. From that point things have gone very well ending ISIS. It has cost more than 2,000 lives of our SDF allies. And I think something like 900 were lost trying to defend the Turk takeover of Efrin (Turks employed 3,000 ISIS plus many Nusra (al Qaeda) Terrorists in the FSA)
The article did not mention the US. We are in Syria and Iraq to end ISIS terrorists. We are part of a coalition of nations to end ISIS.
That is the part of the world where the Ezidi’s have lived for thousands of years. They are not Muslims.
A lot of good will come from this award.
Nadia was represented by Islamic Amal Clooney.......
.....Amal, like George, is a globalist, antiTrump jerko
I think this young traumatized girl was used big time by them
Amal is an attorney........Friends with The Royals, ie Meghan Markle
Mohammed owned slaves (it’s in the Koran). Mohammed had sex with his female slaves (also in the Koran). Thus, to call slavery evil is to call the prophet evil—blasphemy in Islam.
Everyplace Islam raises its head, slavery rears its ugly head, because Mohammed did it, and Mohammed is the model for all Muslims.
Saudi Arabia ended slavey in 1962 (due to US pressure). 1962.
Father Druze. Mother Sunni. Druz is considered to be an off shoot of Shia from days of old. But she is not active in her religion and quite vague according to Wiki, etal.
But their captors are.
Ha Ha
I thought FLOTUS Mooch solved this problem by holding up a,’Save Our Girls’ sign that went viral on The Internets?
Where’s her prize? *SNORT*
Snort, indeed.
Her’s is the one they gave Zero.
Yes, and ISIS was an invader of the coutry, Iraq and Syria.
And ISIS captured military equipment left by the USA. Which they used to take over huge areas.
That sounds just like the UN. They only think about their own agenda.
Left? Or given to them?
ISIS, or jihadis in general, can be viewed as the Saudi's "special forces." They, and Obama, McCain, etc.. had big plans for Syria, which Putin frustrated.
