This is just the first step. Eventually they will probably require solar be installed whenever a property is sold. Or whenever any building permit is pulled for any repair / maintenance/ remodeling.

Camels nose in the tent, foot in the door, whatever metaphor you like, that’s what’s going on here.

Actually I like the idea of solar. Somebody I know just got solar, and has seen great savings on utilities. But the issue here is, it should be everyones freedom to choose solar if they want, or not if they choose to decline. The issue is that this is being force fed on us.

If you run the economics WITHOUT any tax subsidies, it’s a money loser.

You are right. They will do it the same way they have more or less outlawed old wood stoves and pellet stoves. We can’t sell our home with the pellet stove that is in it now because it is not EPA compliant. It’s too old. We either have to make it inoperable by filling it with cement or replace it with a new EPA compliant one.
I like the idea of solar but there are reasons why people don’t have it. Our house is paid for and I refuse to let some solar company put a lien on it to lease solar. Yeah we could buy it and make payments but I haven’t seen that it would save us much money for the trouble. We have done everything there is to cut our utility bills where now they’re pretty reasonable....at least for California. We put in new windows and doors, new ac, etc. etc. And Hubby is 67 so I don’t see the payback happening. lol
We won’t do solar until it becomes cost efficient for us....or we are forced.
