In light of this mornings mid-air refueling crash off the coast of Japan involving a C-130 and an F-18, this report takes on added meaning.

Is there a problem with the C-130 maintenance program?

The Hornet/Herc incident was most likely a mid-air during night refueling.

If I was a leader in ISIS, I would have my people in America volunteer for the services, and get assigned to the repair area where the most damage could be done. Conspiracy theory??? Who knows what evil lurks in the minds of men? (Yeah, I know, who does.)

Most of the work done at depots is done by civil service employees or contractors.

If it happened over Itta Bena, it could have been a collision with a mosqito. They’re as big as C-130s in that area.

"Is there a problem with the C-130 maintenance program?"

I would say, on the whole the United States military has the best maintenance practices in the world.

But we've got a LOT of equipment in inventory, and it is impossible to "dummy-proof" the world.

There are a lot of knuckleheads about, not normally a big issue, except when some are working aviation.

Anyone know where to find this report?

+++

“The report mentioned 17 recommendations to prevent a similar occurrence, and Brig. Gen. John Kubinec told the Telegraph those changes have been made. “

Maintenance and Repair aren't big shiny new toys, useful in garnering votes.

Correction in caps:

"this accident is the first time a plane crash has been blamed on work NOT performed at the base."

Here's the redacted Marine Corps report of the incident last summer.

Very good official video reconstruction, then 73 page written report afterward to flip through.

Was there a contractor maintenance technician named Mohammed?

Don’t laugh.

The prop in question was an aluminum Ham Standard.

"...Is there a problem with the C-130 maintenance program?"

Not necessarily. This could have been a local problem adhering to the guidelines.

Bingo. Son in law owns his own aircraft A&P business. He can find so called "certified" workers but he has found that having the "piece of paper" does not necessarily make for a conscientious employ who is committed to quality work .

YUP and many of the contracts are awarded premised upon social engineering goals rather than merit... Minority owned and women owned businesses tend to get favoritism in bids and in some cases get no bid contracts awarded just because they check the right social justice box...

So only straight white guys are capable of performing maintenance?

Yeah, I think you might want to rethink that point of view.
