Grassley: Fusion GPS Founder CEO Glenn Simpson Lied In Senate Testimony
The Federalist ^ | December 4, 2018 | Bre Payton

Posted on 12/05/2018 8:38:39 AM PST by Texas Fossil

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said Monday that Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson lied to the Senate Judiciary Committee staff about whether his infamous firm continued to investigate Donald Trump after the 2016 election.

In a letter to Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut), Grassley stated that Simpson told committee staff in 2017 that he stopped probing now-President Trump and his associates’ connections to Russian officials after the 2016 presidential election because he “had no client after the election.”

Here’s what committee staff asked Simpson and what the Fusion GPS founder had to say in return last August:

When the Committee staff interviewed Glenn Simpson in August of 2017, Majority staff asked him: ‘So you didn’t do any work on the Trump matter after the election date, that was the end of your work?’ Mr. Simpson answered: ‘I had no client after the election.’ As we now know, that was extremely misleading, if not an outright lie. [emphasis added]

As The Federalist reported back in April, a former staffer for Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California), Daniel Jones, told the FBI he had retained Fusion GPS’s services to “continue exposing Russian interference” after the election.

Jones, who runs Penn Quarter investigative Group, reportedly told FBI he “planned to share the information he obtained with policymakers on Capitol Hill and with the press, and also offered to provide PQG’s entire holdings to the FBI.”

The two testimonies from Jones and Simpson conflict. Either Fusion GPS continued to investigate Trump’s Russia ties, or it did not. Based on a false NPR story, on Monday Blumenthal accused Donald Trump Jr. of lying to congressional investigators about his father’s business dealings in Moscow. The article has since been heavily edited and given a three-paragraph-long editor’s note admitting that the initial version of the story misrepresented Trump Jr.’s testimony.

It looks likely Grassley was fooled in leaving Judiciary for the Finance Committee. Anyone confident that the next Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham will be as honest as Sen. Grassley about this stuff?

I don’t think that the death of McCain is the only reason why Lindsey seems to have changed.

I think it has something to do with his past membership in other committees. He may have a seen the light moment.

The pubbies are idiots. Simpson didn't lie. Read the answer. He didn't say he didn't do any work after the election. He stated that he had no client after the election. Apparently, the questioner didn't make him answer the question. A first year law student knows better than this. Certainly an amature witness knows not to answer questions directly, unless pressed. What a bunch of knumbnuts.

He may have a seen the light moment.

Or he may have been putting on a act so he would be palatable to be seated as chairman Judiciary for the Finance Committee. Now that he has got it, the old linda is back. I saw him on fox slamming Trump for not nuking saudi arabia for killing khashoggi. The senate has been part of get Trump effort from the beginning, along with most of the house. Everything they have done in the open is for show only. They will never let Trump get control of the executive branch and there is no one in dc that will do anything about it.

Materially misleading Congress is, by statute, the same thing as lying to Congress. Congress is mostly lawyers who don’t like word games played on them the way they themselves play them in courts. It’s moot anyway as the DOJ has no willingness to prosecuting any Dem on this subject.

To be fair, he did say “As The Federalist reported back in April, a former staffer for Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California), Daniel Jones, told the FBI he had retained Fusion GPS’s services to “continue exposing Russian interference” after the election. “ So simpson did have a client.

There is another explanation of his reaction to the Saudi’s killing the reporter (agent).

There is another powerful Saudi Prince that is enemy of MBS and that prince has given Lindsey lots of money. And he did same for McCain. There is more to that I won’t go into here.

As Rush says “follow the money”.

He answered like Bill Clinton. “There IS no sexual relationship.”. He meant while he was sitting there answering questions.

It is true he didn’t answer the question. But he still may have lied as he article makes clear, he said he did not have a client but in fact Diane Feinstein’s office had retained him to keep investigating POTUS-Elect Trump. If true, a non-answer but still a lie.

If we’ve learned anything these last years it is that one can defy or lie to a Republican led chamber with no consequences.

I guess we can all wait with bated breath until Simpson will be tried and convicted of perjury before Congress.
