And as long as someone else's children serve and get blown to pieces in an unending war, then everything is fine.

Although it is often stated as a lie, I don’t think a broken promise counts as a lie—unless you never meant to fulfill it. When GHW Bush said “Read my lips...”, I’m sure he meant it. Later, he allowed himself to be rolled by the Democrats into breaking the pledge, and as you say, they then rolled him out of office. That and Ross Perot gave us the Clintons (spit).

He was more critical of other Republicans than he was the Democrats, in violation of his boss’ “Eleventh Commandment”.
